International Princess Project

PJs that Empower

When is the last time your pajamas empowered anyone? Today's Grommet presents the unique opportunity to lounge in comfort and style, while knowing that your purchase is helping to change the world.

It all started in 2005 when Punjammies founder Shannon Keith and her husband visited India. They fell in love with the country, but
even after their return home, remained haunted by the women and children they'd seen in the red light district. Shannon turned to what she knew – sales and merchandising – and developed Punjammies as a way to help Indian women rescued from prostitution rebuild their lives.

What started as a six-woman sewing center is now three centers employing 155 women who receive fair wages and holistic recovery care. Punjammies’ festive all-cotton lounge pants look and feel as wonderful as the story behind them. The elastic waistband sits comfortably on your hips, and the fit can be customized with the drawstring. You can choose from full-length or capris, and grab a Freeset top (they're another International Princess Project partner, operating similarly) to match. Hope never looked so good!

Grommet Launch Conversation

Hi Everyone! We're delighted to have PUNJAMMIES™ featured on Daily Grommet today. Thanks for your support and enthusiasm. We exist to aid in the restoration of women who have been freed from forced prostitution. We're honored to walk alongside them and support them by providing dignified work and a safe environment for them and their children. We're also proud of the quality of the PUNJAMMIES they have made -- they're beautiful and comfortable. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

I bought these last year for myself and my mother-in-law. We both absolutely love them. I live in Houston, so most pajamas are too hot most of the year. These are light and comfortable. I would seriously wear them out of the house, they are so pretty. I actually thought I saw someone wearing them yesterday! You will be very pleased, and the cause is so great!

Hi Donna, I'm so glad to hear that you love your PUNJAMMIES™! Thanks for your kindness -- it's an encouragement to our whole team, both here and in India. Have an incredible holiday season!

Are they a one size fits all? How do I know they will fit me?

  • Katherine
    Katherine – Grommet Team
    12/2/2011 2:25 PM

@Annette: Good question. They are not one-size fits all. I have pulled over this sizing chart from the details tab:

  • Betsy
    12/2/2011 2:57 PM

First of all, I saw these as the featured item and was so excited to get a pair for my sister! If the sizing is incorrect can the recipient exchange? It appears from the chart you added (thank you so much) that they run a little big for traditional sizing (esp. the pants). I also assume that the pants tend to be long on a petite person? Thank you so much!

    12/2/2011 3:47 PM

@Betsy McElroy: Hi Betsy, Thanks for your comment! You can absolutely exchange if you need a different size. They are roomy, which tends to work best for lounging. I am 5'3", and the long pants fit me perfectly. How tall is your sister?

  • Jane
    12/2/2011 2:57 PM

Do the pajamas come with any sort of tag describing the story and fundraising behind PUNJAMMIES? I would like to purchase a few pairs; but, I would like to be able to pass on the story to the recipients.

@Jane: Hi Jane, Thanks so much for your question and your desire to spread the word about PUNJAMMIES™! The tag on the PUNJAMMIES™ does tell the story, and we include a couple of extra description cards that go more in-depth and have photos.

@Jane: Also, PUNJAMMIES™ are also presented in a synced bag made from the extra fabric meaning less time gift wrapping.

Elastic or a draw string waist?

@jeanette schild: Hi Jeanette, Thanks so much for your question! The waistband has both elastic and a drawstring, as well as cute wood beads at the end of it.

@jeanette schild: Beyond the amazing story and beautiful quality, which make this one of my most favorite Grommets, I love that the elastic waistband is wide and comfy (ie not at all binding. I am super sensitive to waistband construction when I am trying to be comfortable!

  • Cathy
    12/2/2011 3:57 PM

What are they made from? Silk, cotton, poly? I couldn't find that information...Thanks,

  • Ann
    Ann – Special Guest
    12/2/2011 4:10 PM

@Cathy: Hi Cathy, Thanks for your question! PUNJAMMIES™ are 100% cotton. Kalani, Annamani, and Vathi are a lighter weight and screen printed. Chinni is a bit heavier weight and is hand-block printed using organic vegetable dye. We recommend that you wash them in cold and dry in medium heat to prevent shrinkage. They are super soft. Please let us know if you have further questions. Have a great day!

Looks so fun and cozy! Can't tell from size chart which might fit. Any info to add about waist size on pants? Women from that country can be very small. I put these on my Xmas list immediately!

@Genie: Hi Genie, Thanks for your inquiry. The waistbands are elastic with a drawstring, and their sizes in inches are as follows:

    XS: 30" relaxed, 38" stretched

    S: 32" relaxed, 40" stretched

    M: 34" relaxed, 42" stretched

    L: 36" relaxed, 44" stretched

    XL: 40" relaxed, 46" stretched

@Nikki: Hi Nikki, We do typically offer more sizes, but are having record-high sales this year and haven't been able to offer as much as we usually do. I'm so sorry we weren't able to satisfy your needs at this time. Please do keep checking back in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

  • Gail

Are they low rise, fit at the waist, or some of each? The patterns of the fabric are lovely.

  • Ann

    12/2/2011 5:44 PM

@Gail: Hi Gail, Thanks for your question! The PUNJAMMIES have an average-size rise and are roomy in the legs. They are quite comfortable, and we've gotten a lot of positive feedback about the fit.

  • Jules
    Jules – Grommet Team
    12/2/2011 8:39 PM

@Ann Clipperton: Ann...I find them slightly low rise. Nothing extreme but they ride just below my natural waist. Personally I prefer that, but I am not long waisted. IF I were, I might call them a bit closer to low rise.

@Jules Pieri: Hi Jules, I'm so glad to hear that you already own PUNJAMMIES are happy with them! Thanks so much for the positive comments and for encouraging everyone else to support the cause. I think the most powerful way to endorse something is through word-of-mouth from a trusted friend. Thank you! I'm curious to know which PUNJAMMIES you own. We have had some styles in the past that have fit a little more low-rise than others. The ones featured on Daily Grommet are more of an average-rise. Regardless, I'm so glad that you're satisfied with PUNJAMMIES and will pass on your encouraging words to our team!

These are out of my price range, at least until I pay off Christmas (already finished Christmas shopping, or I'd order a few of these as gifts). :(

However, I' d like to point out that these are so attractive, they don't need to stay home as jammies! They can be worn anywhere (except places where you need a suit, like an executive meeting)!

  • Char

They are a little out of my price also at this time especially with Christmas c oming. They look beautiful, and I'm sure they are more beautiful in person.

i think that the designs are stunning for such a commonplace item! i'd like to place an order for punjammies for my daughters & daughter-in-law, along with the navy t-shirts's. but i'm wondering if these t's will match all styles of punjammies or only certain ones. (color specifics are a little hard to see online.)

  • Julia
    Julia – Grommet Team
    12/5/2011 2:58 PM

@Mary: The grey top is a light grey and it is the most versatile, because it matches all of the Punjammie bottoms. The Navy Tee could also go with all, but goes best with the Annamani style, because they don't have any black in their pattern. Both tops can be worn out of the house and around town. I am thinking they would be fun to wear to a yoga class.

  • Danielle
    12/5/2011 12:36 AM

I have a tall thin sister I would like to get these for. I am wondering if the length is the same on the small and medium size or not? She normal wears a 32-34 inseam, what is the inseam of these pjs?

  • Katherine
    Katherine – Grommet Team
    12/5/2011 1:00 AM

@Danielle: The inseam on the medium and the large is 32". The sizing chart can be found in the details and also above in one of the first comments. What a great gift...she will love it!

    12/16/2011 3:27 PM

What sizes do you have left for the full leg panjammies? i need to order 2 mediums and 1 large.

  • Katherine
    Katherine – Grommet Team
    12/16/2011 3:35 PM

@ARTI SHAH: Both are still available. I am giving them as gifts this year, too!

  • Alison
    12/22/2011 11:35 PM

I just received an order and I must say that the sizing chart is off. I wear a 16 and the pants' are very tight on me and the inseam is 28 in a size L. I wish it wasn't so because they are gorgeous. I was afraid to even sit down in them because I was afraid of splitting a seam.

I also received somebody else's order, so I will be contacting customer service in the morning.

  • Katherine
    Katherine – Grommet Team
    12/23/2011 12:24 PM

@Alison: I wonder if you received a pair that was mis-labeled because that measurement and fit seems too far off. When you speak with customer service I would ask for an exchange for your pair.

Do you have any panjammies in restock yet? I am dying to buy them. They look so beautiful in the pictures. Also I wear a size 6 petite pant and so I wanted to ask what size I should order in these. I usually like my pj's to be a little bit big and loose, but not so long that I walk all over them. Can you please help me out with this? Thanks so much, Sue
