Canine Cover-up

The Packable Rain Poncho keeps your dog dry during rainy walks, which is great for both of you. Made with a waterproof taffeta shell, the hooded poncho keeps water off your pet’s fur and head. No more shaking off in the house, no more dreaded wet-dog smell or matted down fur. It’s made by RC Pets, whose Founder has a background in creating rugged, high performance gear for skiers and snowboarders. Founder Rory Carr—or RC, if you will—figured our pets could benefit from similar products, and that’s been the focus of RC Pets ever since. This packable dog poncho is a cinch to fit on your pup with an adjustable Velcro strap. A small hole in the coat keeps your dog leashed easily while it’s on. And every size, up to XXL, folds up neatly into a compact pouch with a belt loop to store or clip it anywhere. In a variety of colors and sizes, this little slicker brings a bit of cheer to walks in inclement weather.

Hi, Mike. What size would you recommend for a 65# Airedale? Thanks!

@heidi Mike's at lunch so I am pinch hitting here. :) Can you measure your dog's girth or length? You can get super accurate on sizing by doing that. But if you are trying to give a gift or are just in a plain hurry to order, I'd go with a Large. Even though 65 pounds pushes into XL territory, I just can't see that being the right fit for an Airedale. Here's more sizing info on our site.

@Jules Oops sorry Heidi, clearly I was too much in a hurry as I meant to say XL. The XXL seems excessive.

@Jules Thanks, Jules. I was leaning toward that for the same reasons. Airedales are a little burly, with shorter legs, so I don't want the poncho so large that it interferes with her "business."

@Megan Hi Heidi, I completely understand the concern about interfering with your pup's outdoor "activities". The band under the belly sits mid belly to low chest and shouldn't interfere with either a boy or girl pup.

Are those snaps in the front? If yes, why not hook and loop like under the chest? Looking for ease of putting on and taking off as well as durability. Thanks,

@Michelle, this is Megan again from RC Pet Products! There is a Velcro band under the belly/chest as well as the snaps in the front. Both points provide secure coverage. The snaps are adjustable and from personal use I have been able to keep the coat snapped and just pull over the head to get on and off, then just attached the belt under the chest.

Thanks for the info. Will probably try it even though I'm not a fan of snaps since I can leave it snapped.

I would like to order 2 ponchos for my kids. One is: Length: 25.5", girth: 34", neck: 18.5", weight: 71.3 lbs. I think XXL is the size for her.

The second kid Latte is a Chihuahua/Maltese mix. He has a weird body. The length is 16", girth is 17", neck 13" and weighs 13.6 lbs. Should I get small or medium?

    Thanks,

    Sadie

Hi Sadie, wow Latte is really all over the charts here! I'll let Megan chime in if I'm way off, but I would go with a medium. It's recommended going with a bigger size for more coverage if your dog is in between sizes. Of course, if you find you need a different size, you can see our return policy here.

Hi Sadie, I would definitely agree on the XXL for your first pup. Latte sounds adorable and we definitely want to keep him dry too! I agree with Mike and would opt for the size medium instead of small, just so it has more coverage for him. However, if this isn't the perfect fit you are looking for, we guarantee all of our products and swapping for a small would be the way to go.

Usually, most clothing items on the market are not long enough on the back for greyhounds or most sighthounds. My greyhound is about 32" down the back from the neck. Would the XXL cover him completely? Would the girth strap go around him? Usually all clothes for sight hounds are handmade. This would be perfect to carry around instead of the one I have that is fairly chunky to carry it and the matching snood.

Hi Sharon, here is the answer straight from Megan:

The XXL Poncho should fit well around the belly and chest, but unfortunately fall about 6” short before your pup’s tail. I would suggest the poncho might be a good solution for the quick to-from pop outside to take care of “business” in the rain, but may not provide the full coverage you are looking for in a more substantial rain fall or longer rainy day walk.
