RediTape

Pocket-Sized Duct Tape

Travel Tape

Duct tape is a household essential, but that big bulky roll doesn’t exactly travel—or even store—well. Thankfully RediTape has created pocket-friendly, travel duct tape that’s flattened to fit anywhere easily. It’s the same ultra-strong, multi-functional, quick-fix tool that we all know and love but smaller and more convenient to have on hand.

RediTape’s Jay Kolb is a duct tape devotee, but found the big cardboard roll a drawback. Jay felt that something as versatile as duct tape should be easier to keep on hand—or even in a pocket.

Pocket duct tape fits neatly into pockets, backpacks, bags, and the glove compartment. And the slim, low-profile design fits better in the usual spots like the kitchen drawer, tool box, or workbench.

Now the tried and true problem solver can do the jobs it always has—whether you’re crafting, DIY-ing, or making a quick fix—pretty much anywhere.

What's the difference between buying your produce and just re-wrapping some duct tape on my own? Seems like it would be easy enough to make quite a few flat duct packs for the cost of yours

  • Jay

Hi Colleen! Good question. Re-wrapping duct tape by hand on your own is possible. However, you probably will run into some issues during the process (telescoping layers, air bubbles, adhesion, etc.) and it will take some time. Our product provides convenience and eliminates these ‘hassles’ and by using high quality duct tape (not the thin, flimsy tape) wrapped neatly onto a compact, flat core, while offering multiple color choices. With our product priced at ~$3.00 per pack, it may come down to how you value product quality and your time. Thanks again for your comment!

Love this concept. We use duct tape for everything from patches to blisters and it is great. This is a great item to give as a house warming present, to college students or people who don't have much space. I keep a roll of duct tape at the office and this is a much better alternative. Is the tape pre-cut to a specific length or does it wrap around and open into a large piece, if needed?

    1/2/2017 2:48 PM

@Sandy Hi Sandy! Thanks for feedback. The tape is not pre-cut. The tape unwraps/wraps the same as the bulky duct tape rolls, so you can use as much or as little tape as you need!

Great idea... how much tape is in a pack compared to a standard roll of duct tape?

  • Jay
    Jay – Special Guest
    1/2/2017 2:56 PM

@Rick Hi Rick! Thanks for the comment. Each RediTape flat pack has 5 yards of duct tape. Standard rolls of duct tape vary in length around 10-15 yards, and the jumbo rolls may have 50 yards of tape.

Jay, read the info and watched the video, either I missed it or the length of the tape was not divulged. Can you help me?

Brilliant! Can you tell me what the yardage is?

Really, I can't imagine it took so long for someone to imagine this solution. Good job. (You do know nobody has a junk drawer as tidy a the one in your video, right? ????)

Hi Judy! Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I also was surprised nothing like this existed on the market. The challenge was developing a process to mass produce the product onto the flat core. And now, we can keep our junk drawers all nice and tidy like the video :-)!

To answer your question: each flat roll contains 5 yards of tape.

guys, this is very cool, even the price. now I'm jumping into that boat of people complaining about the proDUCT being from China.....really? WE can't even make this here in the good 'ol USA?

Hi Christopher, first, love the play on words. That is not easy to do with "duct", but you nailed it. We hear you on the made in the USA piece and we're happy to see you committed to your shopping values. We've written a lot about American manufacturing on our blog and as you probably know a lot of it boils down to young companies not always haveing the means to do it.

With limited availability and a high price tag, it can be really hard to do right out of the gate, which is when we are working with most of our Makers. I bet it is something Jay would love to do down the road, but it takes time. You have to play the long game.

If you want to see more manufacturing come back, support products that are made in the U.S. right now (we have plenty) and support cool ideas from American businesses. By contributing an honest discussion point here, you're helping to do that.

Hi Christopher! Nice play on words! The product was originally planned to be manufactured in the USA, but unfortunately multiple factors contributed to the decision to shift production oversea. I will keep evaluating the business with intentions of bringing the manufacturing back to the USA. Thanks for understanding and I appreciate your feedback!

(And Mike --- thank you also for your comments!)

I like the idea of a flat pack, however, is this the original Duct Tape or is it the thinner, annoying duct tape? If it's the original Duct Tape, I will purchase it, but not if it's the thinner duct tape.

@Carrie I would also love an answer to this. I know my husband and I would use it as long as it is the original strength.

Hi Carrie! Good question and comment. Rest assured that our duct tape is not the thinner, weaker, flimsy duct tape. Our duct tape is 9 mils thick and has a higher mesh count than normal multi-purpose duct tape. The higher mesh count makes the tape stronger and allows the tape to tear cleanly. Our product was purposely introduced with a higher quality of duct tape because of the concerns you identified, so I believe you will be happy with the product!

Hi, Jay. I love this idea, but have a few suggestions for future versions. 1) Add the colors red and blue; 2) Offer a six- or seven-pack with ALL the colors available; and 3) Put more yardage for the same price on each "roll". $17 + s/h is a lot to pay for a mere 30 yards of tape, however appealing it is! Thanks, good luck and Happy New Year!

Hi Fran! Thanks for your suggestions. 1) We plan to add more colors in 2017 including red and blue (white, olive drab, and camo colors are in the works); 2) Good comment - I’ll discuss with The Grommet and maybe we can develop a package that contains all of the available colors; 3) I understand your comment, and I’m open to your suggestion about the length of tape per roll.

Thanks again for your comments, and Happy New Year!

Could this product also be able to be used to dispense tape used for sealing packages and if so does it work?

Hi Ernie! Duct tape will work for sealing packages, but the clear packaging tape will work better.

I like the convenience, but I'm wondering why the length is limited to 5 yards? Does it become too bulky if you try to offer a similar yard length as the standard roles? Thank you.

  • Jay
    Jay – Special Guest
    1/2/2017 5:01 PM

Hi Eroc! Thanks for the comments. The product was designed to have an overall thickness such that the product could fit into one’s pocket (similar to a cell phone). The 5 yards of length enables the product to be pocket size. Plus, we found 5 yards of tape is enough tape for multiple uses. If we offer flat packs with similar length to the standard rolls, the packages do become thicker and more bulky and lose its pocket size feature. Thanks again for your comment!
