SISU

Custom Fit

The idea to create the SISU mouthguard was born on the operating table. Maker Jan Akervall wanted to help protect the teeth of his patients. As an otolaryngology surgeon, he knew their teeth were often exposed to potential damage during procedures. Back at home, Dr. Akervall’s kids were complaining about the mouthguards they had to wear while playing sports. He and his wife Sassa realized the protection he envisioned for his patients’ teeth was also the perfect fit for sports-playing kids and grown-ups. His SISU mouthguards are a fresh new approach to protecting teeth. The bulk has been streamlined out without sacrificing strength, thanks to an impact-absorbing perforated surface that won’t collapse, but instead redirects impact away from teeth. The mouthguard is lightweight, breathable, and so comfortable, many athletes forget they have one in. (Really!) It’s up to 50% thinner than others, so you can easily drink and talk with one in. The best part might be that with SISU, you get a truly custom fit. You can mold it yourself at home and it is remoldable up to 20 times.

Quick Questions

How do I fit the mouthguard?

Fitting the guard is easy and it is remoldable up to 20 times. See full instructions on how to custom fit your mouthguard.

Do the mouthguards protect against concussions?

No. It is a common misconception that mouthguards protect against concussions. No conclusive evidence exists that mouthguards can protect against concussions. What they can do is protect against dental impact.

Is there a dental warranty?

Yes, in the unlikely event of dental injury, SISU offers the highest dental warranty on the market. If you damage your teeth and they were being protected by SISU, they believe it’s their responsibility to fix that. For up to a year after the purchase, SISU covers dental damages maxing at $35,000. For more information, see their dental warranty.

Can I wear the mouthguard with braces?

SISU mouthguards work great with braces because they can be remolded as teeth are shifting throughout treatment. In order to successfully fit your SISU mouthguard, a protective barrier (such as dental wax) is needed to cover the brackets during the fitting process. SISU recommends having your orthodontist help with the fitting.

Can I trim the mouthguard?

Do not trim your SISU mouthguard. With SISU, every part of the guard is important when it comes to getting the most protection out of your mouthguard: the perforations, the crumple zones, the boomerang shape. Not only will trimming the guard void any available dental warranty, but your teeth will be at a lot more risk for injury.
