SmartHalo

Smart Bike

The mission of SmartHalo’s smart bike system is to improve the lives of cyclists by enhancing the bike they already have with the functions they need. The device is an all-in-one hub for biking activity packed into a clean, low-profile design that lives on your bike. It stays mounted on the handlebars until it needs to recharge (around three weeks), and only your unique HaloKey™ can remove it. Navigation function guides you through easy to follow light signals, and fitness tracking, an audible alarm, and a headlight all turn on and off automatically. Information like distance and calories burned is stored in the app. A group of cyclists put their heads together to create SmartHalo as a way to combine the tools they all wanted without taking focus off the road.

Quick Questions

Do I need an internet connection for SmartHalo to work?

Most of SmartHalo’s features rely on Bluetooth rather than internet connection. This being said, the turn-by-turn navigation requires an internet connection to work.

Will SmartHalo fit my bike?

99% chance that it will. We’ve designed SmartHalo to fit with the three main handlebar standards of 22.2, 25.4, and 31.8 mm diameter.

Does SmartHalo protect my bike from being stolen?

Yes. We take the direct approach, with a motion sensitive alarm. If somebody tampers a bit too much with your beloved bike, a loud alarm will ring for a minute. SmartHalo will recognize you by your phone, turning the alarm off when you approach.

Can SmartHalo find the location of my stolen bike?

SmartHalo can only remind you of the last known location of your bike. If your bike gets stolen, SmartHalo won’t be able to recognize its new location. But our integrated alarm system can help deter theft from happening in the first place.

How do I turn SmartHalo on and off?

SmartHalo is a new type of device and as such, there is no "on/off" button. It will turn on automatically as you approach it and turn off by itself when you leave. To do that, it needs to recognize your phone – that means the SmartHalo app must be on, even though it can stay in the background. A lot of what makes SmartHalo "smart" depend on two things: 1) Whether or not SmartHalo is currently connected to your phone; 2) Whether or not SmartHalo is moving.

Is it safe to leave SmartHalo on my bike?

Yes. SmartHalo is meant to be left on your bike at all times. You need to use your personal HaloKey™ to unlock the device from its base for charging.

How long does a charge last?

SmartHalo has been optimized to ensure long battery life. Under normal use (about an hour per day) it will last about three weeks. It will last longer if you use it less.

How do I charge SmartHalo?

To charge, simply remove the device from the base using your HaloKey™ and plug it in a wall outlet or in a USB port with the provided USB cable.

What if my phone battery dies?

The advanced functions of SmartHalo require a smartphone to work, but know you will still be able to use your night light even if your smartphone batteries run out.

Does SmartHalo work in the winter?

We built SmartHalo to work year round. That being said, in general batteries don’t like temperatures below 14°F. In the most extreme winter conditions, we recommend you remove SmartHalo between each ride and bring it inside.

Is SmartHalo water resistant?

SmartHalo has been designed to resist any weather you throw at it. When installed on your bike, it will resist heavy rain so it can stay on your bike. (But don’t take a bath with it.)

Does SmartHalo talk?

No it does not. It only communicates information visually with its luminous halo.

Are offline maps available?

No. Compass navigation can still be used without offline maps, however turn-by-turn navigation requires data.

What happens if my phone runs out of battery?

Since SmartHalo requires a smartphone to work, it will stop tracking and navigating if your phone's battery runs out. If your alarm was armed, you will see the alarm circle fill up. You will thus need to input your tapcode to continue riding. You will stop receiving notifications for text messages and calls. You can still use the light by pressing to short taps on SmartHalo's top surface even without your phone.

Can I turn on my light without the app?

Yes. To turn on the light on manually, simply double tap on SmartHalo's surface. Tap twice again to turn it off.
