Bombas Socks

Performance Socks for Good

Bee Better

Socks are one of those everyday things that are easy to take for granted. Dave Heath and Randy Goldberg, the founders of Bombas, have put a great deal of thought and care into creating an athletic sock that fits better and feels better not only because of the way it’s engineered but because of its charitable mission. With each pair sold, a new pair of socks is donated to those in need.

Made from Pima cotton for better temperature control and moisture wicking than traditional cotton, Bombas socks deliver optimal comfort and performance. Designed to stay in place, cup your heels, and distribute pressure more evenly throughout your arches, these socks are loaded with features to keep your feet on track. From the seamless toe to the cushioned heel that helps protect against blisters, Bombas socks are a feat of engineering (pun intended).

So, why the name Bombas? It’s derived from the Latin word for bumblebee. Inspired by the idea of bees working together to make the hive a better place, the folks at Bombas strive to “Bee Better” and stitch this mantra into every pair of socks they make. Your socks may be the last things you put on when you’re getting dressed, but Bombas are no after thought.

Hi! I'm David, one of the co-founders here at Bombas. We're super excited to share our mission and life-changing socks with you! These aren't your normal tube socks so I'm here to answer any questions you may have about our socks, mission, or story.

If you are so concerned with fit, why do you have S/M and M/L; why no S, M, L and XL?

    Hi Ira,

Good feedback and question. Dave will be happy to respond and should be along shortly.

    Hi Ira!

As a recently launched company (Oct. 2013) we were limited in the number of sizes we could produce due to the fact that we self funded this business. We plan to expand our sizing options throughout the year.

That said, due to the quality of the materials and manufacturing process we use, our socks have a higher stretch and recoil rate than traditional socks. We stand behind our product and ensure 100% customer happiness so if you try our socks and don't think they are the best socks you've ever worn, we'll provide you with a full refund.

    @Dave @Amy @ IRA

I am a proud owner of 20+ pairs of Bombas. Since I starting wearing them I have not put on another pair of socks! Dress socks, tube socks, ankle socks...all replaced. The fit and comfort is absolutely amazing from the first time to after 20 goes through the laundry. My fiance and I both wear them. She is a size 7 women's and the S/M fit perfect. I am a size 10 EEE and the M/L fit perfect. I gave a pair to my friend who is a size 12 and he loves them. So, I would have to agree with Dave when he says that these fit unlike any other sock you have ever tried.

    Tim is awesome.

I love this idea, but have a question about fit. I wear a nine or nine and a half women's shoe (rarely a ten) , and have a very narrow foot and heel with long toes. Which size would you recommend?

    Hi Linda!

Thanks for reaching out. I would suggest you go with the S/M sizing. I have a size 11 men's foot and can still wear the S/M size just fine.

Again, if you try them and find them too small, we will gladly send you replacements at no extra charge.

@Dave do you have socks (crew) for men that aren't as colorful or at least don't have pink? My guy's not quite that flashy. Also, where are the socks made? USA?

    Hi Debbi,

Does he like orange or yellow? That may be less flashy. You can see an example above, right underneath the video. These socks are made in China, unfortunately not all of our makers are always able to manufacture domestically (although they try!)

    @Amy @ Debbi

We actually explored producing them here as well as a number of other countries and while we would have loved to produce them here, the fact is that all the samples we had produced here could not match the quality that our manufacturing partner in China was able to. Our factory is known in the industry for producing some of the most technical athletic socks on the market, which is why even companies that pride themselves on producing "American Made", like SmartWool, even manufacture some of their socks with our manufacturer. Producing our socks with our manufacturer is the equivalent of buying cashmere goods from Italy and watches from Switzerland, it's what they are known for and what they specialize in.

I can also say with good conscious that our manufacture meets the highest standards for working conditions, and unlike other garments, 99% of the manufacturing is done my machines (see Tubular Sock Knitting Machines), with the human component being the person who has to program the CAD model into the computers. In fact, I'm leaving tomorrow to spend two weeks at our factory!

I'm not telling you this to defend our decision, as it is one that we made because of the quality of the product produced and aren't ashamed of. That said, as we continue to grow our business, we hope one day we can get large enough to open our own factory here and have the same machines that are being used at our current manufacturer which will hopefully be able to provide jobs here. But as a two man, self-funded company, we are doing what we need to do now in order to give us the greatest chance for survival.

I was told not to wear socks made solely of cotton as cotton absorbs and gets heavier and causes friction on your feet especially for running and walking.

Great question (I think it was a question?). When you're talking about your traditional cotton socks, yes, you are in fact correct that they do a terrible job of wicking away moisture, but our socks are anything but traditional.

The big difference is that we use Peruvian Pima Cotton, one of the best cottons available in the world. It is like the difference between regular itchy wool and a fine merino wool...they are both wool but they are nothing alike! Peruvian Pima Cotton's fiber structure is such that it wicks moisture and breathes much better than traditional cotton.

I have friends who run marathons in our socks with no complaints on the quality (check out our facebook page to see one of customers who finished the NYC marathon in 3:32!).

But all that aside, if you try them out and don't like them we'll send you a full refund, no questions asked.

Hi Laura! The answer is simple, we back our socks with our customer happiness guarantee.

If you feel like you're wearing through them too quickly, we'll either send you out a replacement or a full refund. Your choice. No questions asked.

Heck, we'll replace them or refund you without even giving a reason.

    Does that work for you?

I would like to know how thick these socks are. I am always in the market for a better sock. Can you give me some sort of idea?

    Thank you,

    Hi Leslie!

Thanks for the question. It's hard to tell you how think our socks are as thickness is not easily quantifiable.

They are thick enough to provide cushion and support while not being overly thick to prevent you from wearing them comfortably in any shoe type.

As I've mentioned in previous posts, we back everything with our customer happiness guarantee so if you get them and they don't meet your expectations, simply let us know and we'll provide you with a full refund, no questions asked.

But we're pretty confident you'll like them (see Tim's post above!)

    Hi Florence!

Lots of members of the Hive wear Bombas for yoga and pilates (see the image above?), but we also understand that when doing any form of exercise that everyone has their own personal preferences.

That said, if you try them out and don't find they meet your expectations, just let us know and we'll provide you with a full refund.

My wife has very sensitive feet and toes. She can feel the seam even in some socks that have the seam on top of the toes. What have you done to make Bombas really "seamless"?

  • Aaron
    2/13/2014 9:25 AM

    Hi Arthur,

Aaron from The Grommet here. The socks are not technically "seamless," but because they are hand-stitched, they remove the annoying bulging seam you often find in other socks. Essentially, it provides a more smooth seam.
