DIY Jewelry Kits

Jewelry Making 101

Susan Ashelford still remembers choosing her first bag of beads and feeling overwhelmed at the thought of making jewelry with them. Today the award-winning jewelry designer is packaging her creativity and know-how into DIY kits to help novices like us take the initiative and build our own unique pieces.

Sugar Snap kits contain
professional-grade materials, including freshwater pearls and semi-precious jewels; all the tools you need; and written instructions. Susan also shares helpful details, such as the proper way to hold a pair of pliers and create the perfect wire loop.

People have been asking Susan to teach jewelry making for years. With her DIY kits, she’s reaching a wide audience of future jewelry designers, young and old, and taking the fear out of tackling the first project. If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at making jewelry, a Sugar Snap kit is the perfect launching pad. It makes a great gift for young creators, too.

Grommet Launch Conversation

Here at Sugar Snap Jewelry, I've selected some of my best selling pieces and packaged them into create-it-yourself kits. After making jewelry for 10 years, I still remember the feeling of looking at beautiful beads, and not knowing where to begin in the creation process. This kit can help you or a loved one start to enjoy my passion! I'm happy to answer any of your questions.

What is the length of the chain that is included? I'm particularly interested in the seaside kit, but is it the same in all kits? It would be helpful to see a list of all items included in the kit.

@ Suzy: The list of items in each kit is in the DETAILS tab (under video & photos) on the page where the Grommet is featured. The Seaside necklace chain is 16". The other necklaces are 17" long each.

I think this would be a great Christmas gift for my granddaughter. She is 10 years old. Do you think this is within the ability of a child that age?

Hi Jim, These make amazing gifts. And no matter her skill level (each kit has the degree of difficulty listed on the front side of the kit by way of the of "pod-o-meter"). I also have posted a how to video so it's fail proof. And I am always an email away if she needs further assistance.

    Happy Crafting,
