Near-Ear Bluetooth Speaker

Splash-proof Speakers

These Bluetooth beach speakers don’t block out the beach . . . or anything else around you. They are a smart alternative to bulky over-the-ear headphones & tangly ear buds.

SunTunes™ are water-resistant, heatproof speakers that create a near-ear, private listening experience so you can still hear the world, but the world doesn’t
have to hear your music.

They’re the product of a hectic beach day. Makers Mike and Valerie Miskin were by the water, tuning into their kids while trying to tune out the loud music from their neighbors. They started troubleshooting. How could they keep their ears open (as a safety precaution with young kids) while enjoying music and not disrupting others?

This earphone/speaker hybrid has a versatile design, with included straps. You choose whether to sling them over a chair or lounger, lay them flat, or wear them around your neck. Then enjoy your tunes, the sound around you, and knowing that you’re not disturbing anyone else.

Hi - have they thought about doing a blue tooth speaker that would send the sound directly to hearing aids? I can set my iPad so that I can hear my music or videos through my hearing aids and it doesn't bother anyone else. Maybe something for the future. Thanks, Ginny

@Ginny Hi Ginny, great idea! We haven't thought of that, but will consider it for a future generation of SunTunes. We actually do know of someone that has hearing loss and uses SunTunes to connect to his Bluetooth TV, so that he doesn't have to turn up the TV loud and bother other in the room. He just places the SunTunes around his neck without the strap. Thanks so much for your question!

@Ginny Another great aspect of SunTunes is that it produces a Ear Safe decibel level below 85 dB. A growing concern in audio is that long term loud music above 85 dB going directly into the ear can lead to hearing loss or tinnitus years later. So its a great way to give your ears a break, yet still enjoy high quality stereo sound!

Hi. I live in Florida and this product is a great idea for the beach and pool! Does it fit most beach chairs? I have some that are smaller for quick trips and others like loungers with wider backs for longer stays at the beach. Thanks, Nina

@Nina Thanks Nina for your question! SunTunes comes with two size stretchable/adjustable silicon straps, one for smaller high back chairs and one for larger high back chairs. The smaller size strap fits up to 20" (L) x 2" (W) chairs and the larger strap fits up to 26" (L) x 2" (W) chairs. This would include most of your high back beach chairs & loungers, but best to measure first. Thank you for your interest!

Are there any Aux input options other Bluetooth such as 3.5 mm headphone jack. If so, I would consider using them as TV extension speakers for residents in a nursing home.

@Don Hi Don, thanks for your question. We do not have an aux input, however, with some of the newer TV's with Bluetooth, you can sync two SunTunes together from one device with 2 people watching TV. So it would work for certain applications, but for a nursing home, it probably would not. It wasn't really developed for TV watching with large groups, but definitely something we would consider for the future. Thanks for reaching out.

How do these speakers work? Is it just that they are quiet enough that only those nearby can hear, or is there directional technology involved in having the sound transmitted to only a certain area?

@Erin Hi Erin, we leverage the fact that audio quality and volume is related to proximity and directionality. The speakers are tilted inward a bit to offer enhanced quality but even without that the proximity to the ears is key. Suntunes delivers a true personal stereo sound because of these design features. You set the volume to a level that lets in the desired amount of ambient sound. The system will also get loud enough to share with others, or completely disconnect from the world if you are leaning into it at a boosted volume. Hope that helps!

@Erin Erin, something I also want to mention is that the speaker backs are magnetic, so if you take off the strap and connect the speaker backs together, you can hang SunTunes anywhere, such as under a patio umbrella, on your shower rod, or even attach to the arm of a golf cart or chair. Simple boost the volume & SunTunes is powerful enough to share with a small group. Our speaker/ear bud hybrid design delivers private music like ear buds or broadcasts music like portable speakers. You get the best of both worlds with only one product!

Wow, I love the look and ease of this product instead of carrying a bulky speaker or ear buds. My question is, I enjoy listening to audio books and when I go on vacation will I be able to hear diolog clearly but also hear the awesome sounds of the waves on the beach in the background?

@Frank Frank, great question! Yes, you are in charge of controlling the amount of ambient sound you want to hear in your space. If you prefer to listen to your audio book yet still hear the waves, you can turn down the digital audio to allow more of the outside world to enter your listening space, and still hear the audio clearly. It gives you heighten awareness of your surroundings. This feature is also great for parents with young kids who want to enjoy music at the beach but hear their kids if they need help. You can also blend conversations with music without having to take anything in or our of you ears. Thank you for your support!

Does this unit have rechargeable batteries, or are they replaceable?

@Robin Hi Robin! SunTunes has a long life rechargeable lithium-ion battery that last 14-hours (@ 50% volume) between USB charges. There is a 2.0 USB recharging cable included with the product. Thank you for your question!

Hi Valerie, I just love this idea. I have teenagers and I am constantly asking them to take their earbuds out so they can hear me. Sometimes I have to yell in order for them to hear me! With SunTunes, they can hear their music and me! Thanks for coming up with this concept. I think it's good to be able to listen to your music or audiobook AND hear whatever else is going on around you.

Hi Christina, I couldn’t agree more as I also have teens and often wonder if the music is too loud for them to hear me with ear buds, than how does that effect their hearing as they get older. I know we can’t completely change habits with kids, but at least with SunTunes we can reduce their long term exposure. Thanks for your positive feedback & support!
