Tea-Riffic

Tea Drops are an entirely new way to enjoy the flavor of loose leaf organic tea on the go or at home. They’re beautiful and convenient—you won’t need any of the tools or create any of the mess. Each sweetly shaped drop is Made in the USA. It’s a combination of finely ground tea leaves that are compressed with aromatic spices and a hint of natural sugar. Drop one into hot water and it dissolves almost instantly. Founder Sashee Chandran grew up in a tea-loving household. But as an adult she found she rarely had the time (or tools on-hand) to steep a cup of loose tea. She experimented with different blends and techniques for two years before coming up with the perfect combination, and the many tea-drinkers here at The Grommet think she nailed it. Sashee proved you don’t have to sacrifice quality for convenience to get the perfect cup of tea.

Hello Grommet Fans! I'm Sashee, founder and CEO of Tea Drops. I created Tea Drops because I used to crave loose leaf tea, but was constantly on-the-go and lacked the time needed to prepare a cup of tea. I was inspired to create a fuss-free way to enjoy loose leaf tea whether at home or at the office. These drops are organic pressed teas that disintegrate in your cup, no tea bag or infuser needed! I hope you enjoy drinking Tea Drops as much as I enjoy creating them.

Can you please explain your process for making the tea leaves able to dissolve? I imagine the quality of the full loose leaf tea is compromised. Also, water temperature and steeping time is a very important process in brewing the perfect cup of tea - as I'm sure you know. How is that Tea Drops do not need a specific temperature and steep time?

  • Sashee
    Sashee – Special Guest
    11/8/2017 12:52 PM

Hi @Jessica -- The tea leaves are ground very finely (think matcha powder) and blended together with spices. Since Tea Drops are true loose leaf tea, you will have a bit of sediment that drops to the bottom of your cup. You can actually consume the tea at the end (great source of fiber/antioxidants) or discard the last sip if you prefer not to!

Regarding temperature -- we've designed our teas so that all teas require around 212F/100C (boiling temp). Of course if you leave the hot water sitting in the cup for close to an hour, your brew will be stronger. However, it's our hope you drink your tea while still hot :)
