Quick Questions

What happens if my phone battery dies or I lose my phone? Can I unlock my AirBolt without opening the app?

We understand that this is a very realistic scenario and the last thing you want is to be stranded at your destination with a dead battery and no way to unlock the AirBolt and access your luggage. To overcome this, we offer two solutions. 1. If you have access to another compatible iOS or Android device, you can simply download the AirBolt companion app and sign in with your details to unlock your AirBolt. Or, 2. With the AirBolt app, you can set a unique back up code: a button combination pattern that is stored locally on the AirBolt. You can unlock your AirBolt by pressing this combination on the AirBolt’s button pad without the use of a smartphone anytime. For detailed instructions on how to set your button code visit this page. If in the case that you have forgotten to charge your AirBolt and the battery is dead, it is a matter of simply plugging in your AirBolt. It will start almost immediately and you can go on with your business.

What devices are Supported by AirBolt?

Most of the latest iOS or major Android devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 or above will be compatible with the AirBolt. See full compatibility list for details.

Can I use the AirBolt while using other devices?

Yes. The AirBolt and most modern smartphones use the Bluetooth 4.0 or above protocol, which allows for connectivity with multiple devices. Your AirBolt will not come in the way of your sexy new Bluetooth headphones or any other Bluetooth enabled devices. However, do note, you can only connect your AirBolt to one phone at a time. For example, if one phone is connected to the AirBolt and you launch the app on your other phone, it will not detect it as it is in use. You must close the app on the first phone to use the AirBolt on another.

Can I reduce the range in which the AirBolt unlocks?

Currently this feature is not available. However, you can change your security settings to manage whether or not your AirBolt requires authentication by you to unlock.

Is the AirBolt App Free?

Yes. The AirBolt companion app will be a completely free download for both iOS and Android platforms. To use the AirBolt, you must download the app first.

Is this TSA accepted and airline approved?

We are officially TSA accepted and we meet relevant legislative requirements for the AirBolt to be flight ready by their standards. The AirBolt also features a timed-Airplane mode that turns off the Bluetooth transmitter for a specified period of time. Finally, we are also FCC and CE Certified.

What is Aeroplane mode?

Entering Aeroplane mode is essentially the closest to having the AirBolt off. It is there if ever needed so you can disable the AirBolt from broadcasting for a set period of time. To wake it up, press the buttons on the AirBolt and reconnect with the phone.

What is crowd sourced Location Tracking and how does it work?

Crowd sourced Location networks rely on your phone's location system. The way it works in a simple manner is, well lets suppose you lose your luggage (we hope not though, it's a pain) and you have locked your baggage with the AirBolt. Well, when someone with the AirBolt (or partner) app walks by, it can detect your AirBolt and send its information up anonymously. The ID of your AirBolt is then matched in our system and the location is updated for you to see. It's a great solution, especially as Airports are high density areas. No sim card needed, no extra on going costs! If you do lose your bag/AirBolt (which we hope you don't), make sure to "Mark it as Lost" by going to the "Find" Tab for that particular AirBolt.

Will you give us a free replacement if TSA cuts this lock off?

I have had many TSA approved locks that when TSA doesn't have the key they cut off the lock and then doesn't put the cut lock in your bag they just through it away!

$80 dollars in the trash for this lock!

@Thomas That's quite unfortunate. From our experience across the board, its actually a rare occurrence. Our's is TSA 007, so they shouldn't ever really been in a situation where they don't have the key. Unfortunately however, we do not have control over the TSA so cannot provide a replacement for their actions. The AirBolt does track who has opened the lock including the TSA and should this occur we also offer crowd location tracking, so should this happen, you can Mark it as lost, so when found by our network, you'd be notified.

I'm reading your answer above about the ability to use multiple bluetooth devices while using the AirBolt and also only being able to connect to one phone at a time. But can multiple AirBolts be connected to the same phone/app-- say, if I have two locked pieces of luggage?

@Sandra 100% :) you can add and control multiple AirBolts from the same phone.
