Hello, Grommet audience! I’m Bob Martin, Founder and CEO at Lynktec where we believe in the power of mobile technologies. I am excited to share our latest design with you as today’s featured Grommet and am happy to answer any questions you may have. Our Reeljuice was inspired by the road warriors on our team who have spent years traveling with way too many charging cords and battery packs for their mobile devices. Having sufficient portable power is indispensable, but carrying the required wall charger, cables, and backup power banks can be tedious. We knew there had to be a better way, so we created what we believe is the ultimate all-in-one portable charging solution–Reeljuice.

Hi, Reeljuice comes with either a USB Charging Module or 10W Rapid Wall Charging Module to recharge the power bank with, eliminating the need for messy, loose cables. Both pieces are removable so that when you are finished charging your power bank, you can just take the battery piece with you. You can also use a standard micro USB cable to recharge Reeljuice.

    Hello Bob,

I' have a Samsung Galaxy 5 (I know it's old) but the end of the charging adapter is not microUSB. Will you be supporting connectivity to this device in the future?

    Thanks,

Hi @frank, Reeljuice comes with both a micro USB connector and MFi Lightning adapter which are compatible with newer Android and iOS devices. Since your Samsung Galaxy 5 has a different type of input, you can most likely find a micro USB adapter for the input you need through a third-party website like Amazon.

Hi @Debra, like Mike said, you can team up our Reeljuice + 10W Wall Charger with an adapter like OneAdaptr to convert the US charger to a European charger. You can also get the Reeljuice + USB Charger which can be charged through a standard USB port rather than a wall outlet for international travel.

As we all have probably experienced, charging cords, over time, fray and break. How easy is it, or is it even possible, to order a new cord and change it out of the Reeljuice Power Bank?

  • Bob
    Bob – Special Guest
    9/21/2016 12:40 PM

Hi @Carolyn, great question! Our charging cable and retracting cord reel is derived from the system used on commercial aircrafts for the automatically retracting entertainment controllers and in-seat phones. Our cord is extremely rugged and will survive tens of thousands of cycles without breaking. We even made it fireproof and gained UL approval for it. So don’t worry about the cord, it will last! We are also pleased to offer a one year warranty on all our products.

Suzanne...how long does it take for the ReJuice Power Bank to be fully charged??? And then how long does it take to recharge my IPhone?

  • Bob
    Bob – Special Guest
    9/21/2016 12:29 PM

Hi @Suzanne, great question! Reeljuice 3X will take approximately 2.5 hours to charge using a 10 Watt input like the 10 Watt Rapid Wall Charging Module and approximately 5 hours to charge using a 5 Watt input. Reeljuice 5X will take approximately 4 hours to charge using a 10 Watt input like the 10 Watt Rapid Wall Charging Module and approximately 8 hours to charge using a 5 Watt input.

The charging speed of each mobile device is based on the rate of charge the manufacturer will allow into the mobile device’s battery, and each mobile device is different. Reeljuice's max charging rate is 2.1 Amp, which is typically the fastest charging rate allowed by mobile device developers.

@Vance This was my question too. Hope to get an answer on it.

Hi @Vance and @Bethany, great question! Any rechargeable lithium ion battery will slowly lose its charge over a period of a few months if it’s not used. That being said, Reeljuice is specially designed to go into a deep sleep mode after 3 hours of inactivity to help conserve power. Simply press the power status button on the side of the power bank to wake it up and begin charging your device.

In addition, some competitor’s low cost battery packs use inferior rechargeable batteries to save cost, but they rapidly degrade making them useless after a hundred or so cycles. We are using the world's leading Lithium Ion Battery suppliers out of Japan to power Reeljuice. These batteries are rated to maintain 80% of their original capacity after more than 500 cycles!

What does "Charge your device...twice as fast" mean? How much faster is it to charge my iPhone compared to using the normal wall charger?

  • Bob
    Bob – Special Guest
    9/21/2016 2:44 PM

Hi @Jill, Reeljuice's max charging rate is 2.1 Amp, which is typically the fastest charging rate allowed by mobile device developers. For comparison, the iPhone 6 includes a 5 Watt charger in the box, allowing a charging rate of around 1 Amp. However, Apple actually allows you to use a maximum charging rate of 2.1 Amp, which is faster.

  • Jill
    Jill
    9/21/2016 3:01 PM

@Bob Thanks for the reply. That makes sense, but doesn't that mean "twice as fast" really only applied to iPhone 6 and 7 since Apple gives us a slow charger? Don't most devices that can charge at 2.1 Amps come with fast charger, like Samsung and other Android devices? It can't charge the iPhone 5 faster, can it?

  • Bob
    Bob – Special Guest
    9/21/2016 4:47 PM

Hi @Jill, There are actually a couple of things to consider when it comes to charging time. The first is related to the maximum rate of charge that the phone can accept. Most new smartphones can accept 2.1 Amps of charge in one hour. Reeljuice can deliver a max of 2.1 Amps in an hour. Many lower cost power banks can only deliver 1 Amp in an hour, so that is why they take twice as long to recharge a phone.

Also, you should consider what happens when it comes time to recharge your power bank, especially if you plan to have your phone connected to it and recharge your phone at the same time. Many power banks cannot charge your phone while they are recharging, but Reeljuice has pass through smart charging so we can charge your phone at the same time. And, if you opt for the Reeljuice with the wall charger, our modular wall charger is 10 Watts, compared to many 5 Watt chargers that come with phones, so we double the “recharge rate” there as well, making recharging much faster.
