Quick Switch

Instantly automate your lights and fans without having to change your light bulbs or re-wire your home. Place Switchmate over any toggle or rocker switch, then download the companion app to control the switch via Bluetooth. It’s an easy induction into the smart home lifestyle. With Switchmate, lights can automatically turn on as you arrive home or enter rooms, and timers allow you to set your lights to go automatically on or off while you’re away. There’s a robotic arm inside Switchmate that responds to the app—moving the switch for you. We like that it also lets you press your switches on and off by hand, too, if you like. Add anyone you want in the family and let them control Switchmate as long as they’re within Bluetooth range. Turn the lights off from the couch when you fire up Netflix. Snap off the lights from bed. Or just have a lit up house greet you from the driveway. It’s all in the palm of your hand.

@Mike - Absolutely! Who wants a "smart" product that removes something as basic as being able to turn your lights on or off with a simple flick or click? If we made people pull out their smartphone every time they wanted to turn their lights on or off, we'd be complicating life, not automating it :). The true power of Switchmate comes not from moving a light switch from your wall to your phone, but in automating your lighting so you don't need to fumble for light switches in the dark when you come home, for example.

@Mike the feedback has been amazing, the first thing everyone raves about is of course how easy it is to install and start using - first time home automation users are so excited that they can so easily add smart home technology to their lives, and people that have used other home automation devices in the past are usually even more shocked, having struggled with configuring and using devices that make you feel like you need to be a computer wizard to use.

@ Jarrod, our engineers tend to be secretive lot, but I know they are always looking at ways to improve our user experience and find innovative ways to bring simple home automation to the market

@Valerie, you only need to buy a Switchmate for the light switches you want to automate, so for example that back room you rarely use probably doesn't need one, but your front door and/or garage light will is likely the first switch you'll want to make smart.

Even better, if you get one for a light switch and later decide you don't really need that light automated, you can simply pull Switchmate off, and snap it onto another lightswitch in just a few seconds.

@Lynn, to simulate activity in your house while you are away, you can set timers in your switchmates to automatically turn your lights on and off at different times on different days, and these will continue operating even while on vacation, so you can focus on your vacation while Switchmate takes care of your lights! You can't currently control your Switchmate when you are out of Bluetooth range, but we are always working on new features.

@Nelson The Switchmate unit is approximately 2.5 inches x 5 inches. For double switch plates you can choose which of the switches you want to automate. You can't currently fit two Switchmates immediately beside each other on a double switch plate, but you could put them on the two outside switches on a triple plate.

    8/18/2016 12:58 PM

Does it have just on and off? What about dimmer switches? Since blue tooth has a limited range depending on the number of walls present, can you control every switch from one location or do you have to move around? How do you know every switch has responded?

I don't understand about the robotic arm. Does this mechanically attach to the switch some way?

  • Ashley
    Ashley – Special Guest
    8/18/2016 2:31 PM

@Andy Switchmate will turn lights on and off with either standard toggle or rocker switches.

As long as you are in Bluetooth range you can control every switch from one location.

The Switchmate app allows for control of multiple light switches, and each switch is assigned an icon. The icon will give you a visual confirmation as to whether your light is on or off.

Switchmate attaches to your light switch using powerful magnets, connecting to the metal screws holding the light switch in place. It simply slips over the actual toggle or rocker allowing the motor to push your switch up or down.

  • Frederick
    Frederick

Do I need to have this device on EACH light switch? If so, that would take 12 units for our home. At $39.95 (plus S+ H) for each switch would be expensive! Also, we have several multi switch plates (3 switches per plate). Will this device work on multi switch plates?

  • Ashley
    Ashley – Special Guest
    8/18/2016 2:39 PM

@Frederick One Switchmate controls one light switch. Switchmate works with multi switch plates but only two units will fit on a 3 switch plate.

Love the idea - great way to manage lights on Saturdays/holidays with a timer. But, I have unique requirements. Specifically, I have Lutron Decora style switches. I understand it works on those switches, but what about the following scenarios: 1) will it work on one switch, within a gang of four switches [I only need it to work on 1, but I still need access to the other three]. 2) Some of the switches have separate slider dimmers to the right of the on/off toggle - can the Switchmate still turn the switch on and off (without changing the dimmer setting)?

@Andy Switchmate will turn lights on and off with either standard toggle or rocker switches.

As long as you are in Bluetooth range you can control every switch from one location.

The Switchmate app allows for control of multiple light switches, and each switch is assigned an icon. The icon will give you a visual confirmation as to whether your light is on or off.

Switchmate attaches to your light switch using powerful magnets, connecting to the metal screws holding the light switch in place. It simply slips over the actual toggle or rocker allowing the motor to push your switch up or down.

Do I need to have this device on EACH light switch? If so, that would take 12 units for our home. At $39.95 (plus S+ H) for each switch would be expensive! Also, we have several multi switch plates (3 switches per plate). Will this device work on multi switch plates?

@Frederick One Switchmate controls one light switch. Switchmate works with multi switch plates but only two units will fit on a 3 switch plate.

I don't think so, Nick, but you'll have to be more specific for me to be sure.

@Ralph You can put one Switchmate on your four switch unit and still have access to the other three switches.

Switchmate will fit over the Lutron Decora switch without changing the dimmer setting.

Does this make any noise when turning the light on and off? I have read that some of these types of switches have a little motor that might make a noise.

@Shelby The motor does make a very quick, very slight noise when turning on and off a light.

How many Light Switch Adapters are needed? Is it one for each light switch or does one Adapter control more than one light? Looking forward to your response.

    Thanks,

    Benny

Hi Benny, you would need one Switchmate per light switch.
