Ripen avocados fast with an adorably small sock (yes, a sock) made just for the job. The Avocado Sock is made from pure Shetland wool that helps move along the ripening process, thanks to its natural lanolin and cozy warmth. It’s scaled to snugly fit an avocado as it gently and evenly encourages ripening in about 48 hours and makes for a super-cute addition to the kitchen counter or fruit bowl.

  • Materials: 100% Shetland wool sock, ultrasuede label and drawstring

Lousy Product

The very first time I used this silly sock, the label popped off as I squeezed the avocado into the small opening. While it seemed to help ripen the avocado that first time, I didn't have a "control" avocado for comparison. The second time I used it, the avocado didn't ripen after three days AND the leather tie strap broke. Rip off!More > < Less

Doesn’t fit Most Avocados

Are the avocados bigger in New Jersey?? Bought a whole bunch of varying sizes, and couldn’t get any of them in the socks. Had to give the socks and the avocados separately as Christmas gifts, and we all had a laugh about “useless inventions”.More > < Less

Really cute but doesn't work.

I was so disappointed. I gave this as part of an avocado-themed gift to my husband (because he loves his heart-healthy fats). The socks are adorable, but useless. They do not ripen an unripe avocado any faster than the ones that sit on my counter bare. Save your money and use a paper bag!More > < Less

Love the idea.

I try all kinds of gadgets to protect, ripen, keep from browning avocados. Unfortunately, most sound great but don't deliver. This is no exception. First, not all avocados fit in the little sock. Second, using a brown bag ripens it faster. Third, sometimes avocados are not perfect; sometimes they get bruised or whatever causing them not to ripen consistently. That's nature.More > < Less

About The Avocado Sock

The Avocado Sock got its start when Maker Dianne Sherwood worked as a caterer. She would stuff unripe avocados into old ski socks to help speed up the ripening process. When she learned that not many other folks knew about this trick, she created a tailored, perfectly avocado-sized version to do the job—because, really, who wants ski socks on the counter?

Dianne’s updated method is adorably small and fits snugly on an avocado. It’s made in Canada from pure Shetland wool that’s sourced from a 200-year old woolen mill in Scotland. The purity of the wool matters; its natural lanolin, not to mention the dark, cozy warmth it creates, is what helps the avocado ripen. The sock gets it ripe evenly and gently and does it in about 48 hours—and is by far the cutest thing we’ve ever seen on an avocado.
