Hello everyone! I'm Jim Mones, a merchandiser at The New York Times Store. I’m proud to introduce New York Times Custom Books to The Grommet. I helped create these personalized products and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!
-
Hi Jim, how did this project start and what is the feedback from recipients of a New York Times book?
-
@Mike Everybody loves these books because the books take them back, back, back in time, to dates they remember. The books really got started years ago when New York City Mayor Bloomberg was seeking a gift for his mother, who was turning 100. He wanted a book with Times pages from every birthday in her life. We then realized a lot of other people would love a gift like these!
-
Thanks, Jim. And if anyone wants to learn more about The New York Times memory books and the work of Subatomic Digital, I sat down with their CEO, or rather Chief Gopher Officer, Alex on the latest Meet the Maker Podcast.
-
How long does it take to create one of the custom books? I want to get one for my dad on his 90th but would like it to be there for the special day. The shipping time is clear on the website, but not the time to make the book, hence the total time for delivery from ordering.
-
@Guest Hi. The books are made pretty quickly in Vermont. Even though each book is customize and unique, the book are generally out the door within 3 days.
-
Hello, As an anniversary gift, does the book include the front page of the NYT for each year on the anniversary date? Looking for a gift to celebrate 41st anniversary. Thank you.
-
@Annette Hi. The Anniversary Book reprints the NYT newspaper from the date you select. So, if a couple were married in, say, Oct. 5, 1975, the book would have that day's paper (up to 80 pages). It shows the couple the events that took place on the big day of their wedding.
-
Is this book just the day someone was born? Or is it the birthdays of every year up to now?
thankyou
Pat -
@patricia Hi. The Special Day is the book for you if you're seeking the newspaper from the day a loved one was born. If you want all the birthdays in someone life, go for the Birthday Book. For example, if a loved one is, say, 70 years old, the Birthday Book would have 70 front pages, one for each year of their life.
-
I'd like to get this for my dad who was born in 1932. I noticed an 80 page limit on the birthday book. He'll be 84 this year. Will his birthday book include all 84 front pages from his birthday?
-
@Joseph Yes! We like to say a limit of 80 pages, but there's some wiggle room. We can do 84 pages for your Dad!
-
I want to give this for a wedding gift that is coming up in a few weeks. I am assuming that this will not be able to get produced until the actual day's events and news can take place! How soon can you collect after that day? Would the order just be on back order until that day comes?
-
@Daniela Hi Daniela. Indeed, we couldn't produce the book until AFTER the big day (our time traveling machine is in the repair shop!). We would make the book right after the event. You can order now with the future date or order after the wedding... really makes no difference. Best wishes to the lucky couple!
-
Can a middle name be included on the front? Thank you.
-
It absolutely can, Paula.
