"Hi, I'm Ubooly"

Husband and wife Isaac Squires and Carly Gloge have created an interactive stuffed animal that turns everybody's favorite childhood toy into an exciting new way to learn. As a child, Carly always wished her stuffed animals could talk. Ubooly can do just that and a whole lot more. It can speak and respond, explore math concepts, expose your child to Spanish, tell stories, inspire imagination, suggest activities, and provide endless hours of entertainment. With the help of your smart device, Ubooly comes to life and gets kids to interact and learn through active play. Ubooly is powered by technology, but it looks and feels like a cuddly companion, not a computer screen. The content for Ubooly is created by real life educators and comedians. New lessons and games are added regularly and automatically available. No manual downloads or synching required. Ubooly is available in two sizes: the small accommodates the iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android, while the large Ubooly is designed for the iPad Mini and Nexus 7. Simply download the free Ubooly app, personalize it for your child, tuck your smart device into Ubooly’s pocket and let the joy of learning begin. In addition to hours of free content, you can add on play packs including everything from science experiments to jokes and riddles to pass the time on long car rides. Ubooly is one smart stuffed animal—it can even send you emails or text messages regarding your child’s progress.

Hi, guys! What do YOU want to do? We can explore a mysterious cave, search for the Loch Ness monster, swim alongside a blue whale or journey to the outer limits of the Milky Way! Let me be your guide as I take you on magical adventures—or if you want, we can just snuggle up in your room and share stories, interesting facts and jokes. I know a ton of GREAT jokes. Well, some of them are great.

Can my 10 month old play with this toy? He currently uses my iPhone to play some apps and he really loves it (I limit him to twice a day for a couple of minutes). Is this toy suitable for him to grow with?

    Thank you.

Hi Chrissy, great question! We just released a toddler mode where younger kids can interact with Ubooly by singing songs, learning the alphabet, making animal noises and playing simple games. Ubooly also makes silly noises when the screen is tapped or when tossed in the air. Once your child is older (3-4) he can transition into the regular app.

I think your carry ion is awesome!!!

What age is this targeting ?

Is French a part if the app?

Canada's 2nd language is French and I find a lot of interactive learning has Spanish but we are definetly lacking in French, not as primary but additional language. If French is or may be an option in the very near future, it's Sold!!

In the video, the child zips the iPhone into a pocket on the Ubooly. Does the toy need to be in close proximity to the smartphone or tablet i n order to work? Basically, am I going to have to have an iPhone designated for this?

Hi, your smartphone or tablet goes inside the Ubooly plush and stays there during playtime to protect your device and to create a more unique experience for your child. So, yes, you will need to designate an iPhone for this, as the app runs via your device.

Hi! The app runs on your smartphone but you'll still be able to receive calls. We normally recommend people use a hand me down phone for Ubooly. The app is compatible with Android 3.0 and up and iPhone 3Gs and up, as well as the iPod Touch.

We've conducted numerous tests with the smartphone inside Ubooly's memory foam padding and have never had a phone get scratched, cracked or damaged. In fact, the memory foam is 40x more expensive for us than regular stuffed animal padding. So, toss away!

It does require a smart device, but you can use an iPad Mini, 7 in Android tablet, or an iPod Touch in lieu of a smart phone. Note: the tablets will only fit in the jumbo Uboolies.

Hi Carly, I don't know if these questions have been asked already, if they have I'm sorry, if not, then here goes... Can Ubooly be programmed by the parent so that they can teacher their child exactly what the parent would want the child to learn? If not, is there any future plans to incorporate said into Ubooly?

Secondly, is there a way that someone can view the topics Ubooly offers before purchasing the product?

Can Ubooly be washed when it gets dirty???

Hi Zadia, you can select which lessons your child uses within the app. The app is a free download in the app store, so you can experience the content before you purchase the plush. We don't have any current plans to open development to the public.

If Ubooly gets really dirty, you can machine wash cold and air dry.
