The Blessing Flower

Regenerating Flower Necklaces

Everlasting Bloom

Reblooming flower necklaces are as lovely as they sound. Each one features the tiny desert flower known as The Blessing Flower. With just a few drops of water, the dried bud opens its petals—and stays that way for about an hour. It can bloom and re-bloom for up to 30 years.

Apply your own meaning to this everlasting blossom. It
can symbolize a new beginning, signify hope, or remind you of someone special.

Maker Galya Harish discovered this ancient flower while hiking in the Israeli desert—she was mesmerized when it closed right before her eyes. She decided to share her find by making the flower wearable. After years of trial and error she succeeded in growing this magical flower in greenhouses. Galya carefully selects around only 20% of the blossoms to make into her jewelry.

Wear it yourself or give it to a loved one. A little bud that continually springs to life can’t help but be inspirational.

The idea of necklace made of an actual flower seems implausible, but here you are. Where did the idea come from?

  • Galya
    Galya
    3/28/2016 1:34 PM

Actually I really believe that when you follow your heart, things fall into place in mysterious ways. I come from law & high tech. When I turned 40, I was going through some personal and professional challenges. I was thinking of creating a line of meaningful jewelry.

I used to hike in the desert not far from my house…it helped me clear my mind and focus. In one of those hikes, I noticed a flower that I didn't recognize. I was so inspired by its amazing ability to re-bloom again & again. It made me think that every day is a new beginning and also how amazing life is with all its wonders.

Because I just started to think about a jewelry line, I thought it could be so meaningful as a jewelry so that people can carry it with them as a reminder. I really feel that it was more than a coincidence. That as I started following my heart, all the pieces of the puzzle appeared one by one.

Turning this into a business, how difficult was that? Was it something you were prepared to do?

  • Galya
    Galya
    3/28/2016 1:36 PM

Building a business is like an unexpected roller coaster with many challenges along the way. It required a lot of persistence, perseverance and faith in my dream and in what I was doing.

Initially I wanted to be able to grow the flower, so I would not take from nature. It took over two years to manage to grow the flowers (with many false hope moments in the middle). But even when this challenge was won and I had finished products that customers loved, marketing was a challenge by itself and it took us two years to reach stable sales.

There were many challenges along the way, there still are. I had to check myself many times along the way, to make sure this can be a business and that I was not holding on to a dream– I knew the product was unique & exciting and customers love it, but it takes a lot of hard work and sleepless nights to make this a business.

When you start the journey, you don't know what's ahead of you. But it's an exciting journey, I learn all the time and most importantly, I feel that I am following my dreams on the way to creating a meaningful & inspiring business.

very unique item but what happens after thirty years? would the flower stop blooming, disintegrate, be replaced, or remained in as a closed flower? If it remains in its closed form, how do you preserve it from turning into sawdust?

What has been the response from people wearing or seeing it?

  • Galya
    Galya
    3/28/2016 1:38 PM

The responses have been overwhelming everywhere. :) Initially there is always this amazed face of people watching it bloom for the first time. They really can't believe it's happening.

But what's really meaningful is the reaction of the customers giving it as a gift or receiving it. I get so many heartwarming emails and feedbacks because it is so meaningful. It can be as simple as holding on to your necklace when your kids are driving you crazy so you remember that tomorrow is a new day....as meaningful as when I get an email from a mother who received it from her daughter (who bought one for each sister and their mom) as a bond of everlasting love and how their mother made them bloom…as romantic as a man buying this to his wife with the note "thank you for 30 wonderful years" and as inspiring as the emails I get from a truly amazing woman who is facing health challenges who wears it as a reminder that she will overcome and bloom again.

I just received my Blessing Flower and like it. However...I was disappointed that there is no color to it! In the presentation, particularly showing it in the desert, there is a yellow flower. Maybe a "disclaimer" as to color should be added? The box, with explanation imprinted in the top is a brilliant idea.

  • Galya
    Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 10:23 AM

@Susan hi, the flower is yellow when it blooms on the plant. It then dries in the desert sun and this is why it is brown. I appologize if this was not presented clearly when showing the yellow flowers with the green leaves...

How do you recommend that you clean the jewelry? I would imagine that some traditional methods such as Ultrasonic cleaning would not be possible. So what are the safest and most effective way(s) to clean?

    Thanks

  • Galya
    Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 10:38 AM

@Jim hi, these are plated pendants, they usually do not need any cleansing. If need arize you can wipe it with a gentel anti tarnish cloth, but that would be a very rare need which we have not yet encountered :)

  • Galya
    Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 10:39 AM

I was wondering when the flower is open, can the petals be broken off or will they stay the same the entire time you are wearing it? These are beautiful and so meaningful.

  • Galya
    Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 10:47 AM

Hi @Sue, thanks! when the petals are in movement they are very flexible. Once you put a few drops of water on the flower (or dip it in water for 10 sec or so) you can see the petals slowly opening up and within a minute they will be fully open and stay like this for about an hour, before slowly starting to close back.

  • Galya
    Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 10:49 AM

While it is not recomended to press the petals when they are in opening or closing movement - we have not encountered even a single case where they broke...and we have been selling them for the last 3 years.

When the petals are opened, you can safely press them firmly and nothing will happen to them...

  • Galya
    Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 10:49 AM

And...if you want the flower to be open longer - you just dub the middle with a wet finger and it will keep the petals open...

@Galya I, too, would like to see this on an Atheist symbol. It would be a perfect reminder that life is beautiful and full of "bloom" to us without the need of any faith. It would also have the double meaning of the wonders of science - for what else could explain such a unique and wonderful flower? Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 11:12 AM

@Theatrice hi, I understand your comment, but actually it is not expensive at all considering what it is and how it is made :)

We grow the flowers in the desert, where they bloom on the plant only once a year! we then sort and cleanse them one by one and less than 20% of flowers finish this initial process.

Then we chekc each an everyone like a gem - as you can see in the video. The process takes a long long time of delicate hand work.

  • Galya
    Galya – Special Guest
    4/7/2016 11:14 AM

We then set them in the special pendants and after the setting process (which takes 2 days) is compelted we check each flower again...

So this is where the price is coming from...

And you get the most unique & meaningful gift - which is priceless :)

  • Terri

@Galya I think I can understand where her idea of price comes from. I am assuming she is on a fixed income as I am. We love things, but are not able to afford to buy things we may love to own. It will open for 30 years..everytime you put water on it...

Unless of course you mistreat it - swim with it, stand on it (one customer had her daugher step on it accidently) or soak it in detergents :) In this case - you can still rest calm becuase we have a life time guarantee for the flowers, no questions asked :)

@Cristina hi, the pendnatns are made from zinc plated with a thick coating. They usually don't tarnish but since you have a special sensitivity, you have to double check. unfortunately real gold is not avaialble yet. But you can always change the chain to a solid gold chain and wear the pendant itself over your shirt, then it would not be a problem.
