Reversal of misfortune

After inadvertently putting her brand new cashmere sweater in the wash and dryer, Unshrinkit co-founder, Desiree Stolar, did what any resourceful, modern day woman would do—she turned to the Internet for guidance. While she came across plenty of home remedies, nothing worked. That’s when she teamed up with some fellow Harvard Business School graduate students to invent Unshrinkit. With the help of a chemical engineer, Desiree and company co-founders Nate Barbera and Matt Kahn developed a liquid solution specially devised to interact with shrunken, bunched up wool, cashmere, and angora to elongate, straighten, and restore the fibers back to their original "unshrunk" condition. There was such a great response, that they kept innovating and recently introduced a better-than-ever formula. Now, when your favorite sweater takes an accidental tumble in the dryer and ends up smaller than you’ll ever be, there’s no need to dismay. Simply dunk that sweater in a bottle of Unshrinkit mixed with water for 30 minutes, rinse, stretch, and lay flat to dry.

Hi. I knit a sweater for someone out of 100% Peruvian wool. I accidentally semi-felted it while using the spin cycle on the washer to try and wring out water after hand washing. The sweater is not so "shrunk", but undesirably semi-felted. I was hoping for a way to restore the sweater enough to be able to unravel the yarn in some places as the sweater needs alterations. Is this wool sweater too far gone, or do you think the unshrinkit could rescue it?

@Candace Good morning, and thanks for your question! Our product is designed to unshrink wool that has not yet felted. Unfortunately, once it has felted there's not much we can do. Since you've said it's semi-felted, I can't guarantee that our product will work, but it may be worth a shot!

@Terri Hi Terri! Is your sweater made of 100% cotton or is it a cotton/wool blend? Our product works on both wool and wool blend sweaters, including wool/cotton blends. In the last few months, we have heard from some customers that Unshrinkit worked on their 100% cotton garments, but it wasn't designed for that so we can't guarantee it will work.

@Terri This is a question we're asked all the time - as long as your sweater has some wool in it, Unshrinkit should work!

how many sweaters can a bottle unshrink? Noticed in video you used a whole bottle, so it would be quite expensive if I had one this week, and another next week. I'd have to buy multiple bottles. Doesn"t cream rinse do the same thing? And cheaper?

@Valerie Hi! Great question - our product will work for up to four sweaters in a single use! You do use the entire bottle, but you can unshrink as many shrunken items as you can soak in the solution at one time!

As for your last question - while we were developing Unshrinkit, we tested all of the popular home remedies, and we found that while some of them might seem to work right away, the sweater will shrink back up the next time you wear it. Our product is based in chemistry and interacts with the proteins in wool fibers to allow you to permanently save your sweaters!

We shrunk a cashmere blanket to less than a quarter of its original size. How much larger do you guess we can stretch this back?

    Thanks

@dan Hi Dan - that's pretty shrunk, but if it's not felted you should be able to unshrink it back to it's original size! Because cashmere is such a fine fiber, it shrinks a lot, but that also means that it can unshrink a lot as well! Please let us know how it works!
