Reach New Heights

VERT is the first Made in the USA, wearable vertical jump tester. In real time, it tells you how high you jump, your best vertical, average vertical, and how many jumps you made in a practice session, game, or workout. Smaller than a matchbox, VERT clips right to your clothes. As you jump, it tracks your verticals and displays the stats on a smartphone or tablet with the free VERT app. With the coaches’ app, entire teams can track the jumping profiles of different people at the same time—perfect for basketball, volleyball, or track & field. Founder Martin Matak, a little league basketball coach, developed VERT so the kids could track their jump height. He also had another benefit in mind: preventing the risk of injury from over-jumping. Before VERT, the only way to track height and number of jumps was to have someone do it manually. That wasn’t practical, and VERT now makes that data available fast and affordably. We were extra excited that Martin makes VERT in the USA. It’s no wonder that Team USA for training Olympic volleyball athletes is a VERT partner. It shows just how high VERT sets the bar for wearables.

Hello everyone! I'm excited to bring VERT to the Grommet. Whether it's during a training session or in the heat of a game, VERT will help you measure and quantify every vertical leap you take. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!

Why is this something basketball players, volleyball players, and jumpers of all kinds should look to buy?

The most important thing is injury prevention. Baseball has pitch count and now we have jump count for jumping sports. Another reason is for performance. You will be able to understand and track your improvement. Finally, for motivation. There is no better feeling than finally reaching that goal!

This is a very cool product I wish I had playing sports. Was the process of bringing it to life an ‘aha’ moment or more of a gradual process?

It was a “ah ha!” moment. Martin was coaching a basketball team (ages 13-16) and all they cared about was how high they jumped. He knew that there had to be a way to measure this easily… and 20 years later the product came to life!

Can you guarantee me, in writing, that if I use this for six months I’ll be able to nail a windmill dunk? If not, how about a year...?

Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee you will be able to dunk… but we can guarantee that you will be able to track your jump measurement and track your improvement!

Alright I guess that is pretty good, too. :) What does it mean to be launching on The Grommet and what do you expect the feedback to be like?

We love great partners so this is really exciting for us! The Grommet is very passionate about new products and we love that about them. We think people will incorporate VERT in all sorts of training and sports and we want to hear about it! We are looking forward to hear the feedback.

I coach co-ed competitive trampoline and tumbling. Increasing jump time is always a goal. In the video, VERT is attached to the waistband of shorts. Could it also be attached to the neckline of a leotard without compromising the accuracy? How many athletes is it capable of tracking? Do you offer a discount on multiple units?

@Darcy Hi Darcy, when you purchase VERT it comes with a VERTbelt. Athletes can simply slide in the device in the belt pocket.

We recommend placing the device around the waist (close to the belly button) because this is the players center of mass and the most accurate way to measure vertical.

The app syncs one player at a time but we do have a coach app available that tracks multiple players.
