Dusk Rider

Meet the Vespert—a head-turning, reflective safety vest. Made in New York City using 100% Eco-circle recycled and recyclable performance fabric and featuring reflective 3M Scotchlite material that’s visible within 2000 feet of a car’s headlights, the Vespert is designed to look as flattering as it functions. It can be adjusted to fit comfortably over any base layer. Inside the Vespert, you’ll find an inner mesh pocket for carrying your phone, keys, or cash. When not in use, it folds right up into a built-in stuff pouch for easy storage in your purse or backpack. Sarah Canner came up with the idea for the Vespert when she began using her bike as a means to get around the City. She didn’t understand why women should have to sacrifice their personal style for their safety. The Vespert appeals to your fashion sense and your common sense.

Greetings! I’m the founder and designer of Vespertine and excited to share my story with you.

When I started cycling for transportation I couldn’t find any safety gear that would make me visible and still feel fabulous and fashionable on my bike. As a woman, when I wear something attention grabbing- I want to feel great in it. That’s when it struck me- safety wear doesn’t have to be ugly!

Vespertine’s line of Haute Réflecture is re-imagining safety wear by combining eco-friendly, luxurious fabrics and exquisite tailoring with the most reflective 3M Scotchlite materials. All of my products are produced in NYC and designed to enhance an active lifestyle, be it biking, running, walking or dancing the night away.

Thanks for checking it out. I look forward to your thoughts and feedback and to answering any questions you might have!

OMG! That is awesome, I love it. Going to share this with all my biking and running friends. I ride everyday and everywhere. I even have a tag along bike for my daughter to rider with me. How small do they run, so I can get her one?

@Guest Thanks for your feedback! The Vespert is made in small quantities in New York City using extremely high quality materials all of which attributes to its price. If you consider how much you pay for a tank of gas- two weeks of riding your bike instead of driving and your Vespert has paid for itself. I also like to think of it as an investment in your safety- while it may be more than the typical safety vest, it is one that you'll actually wear and that makes all the difference!

@Sarah - I am a regular bike commuter and I love your idea - however, I also wish that the price was a little lower. I ride my bike to save money so the idea of spending $68 on a vest (even a pretty one) is just a little hard to swallow. If you brought it down to $38 or $48, I'd be sold.

Thanks @Jenny ! I understand where you're coming from but my price is based on my cost. I also like to think it is reflected in the quality of the product - pun intended! ;)

Hi Sarah, great idea! Would you consider making a men's version? I think there would be interest from them as well. My friend says he feels like a big nerd in his yellow and orange vest.

@Guest Yes, I would like to do a men's version. While one of my goals in founding Vespertine was to empower women to be more active and feel safe biking, etc... there are still more men biking - so it's a good idea from a business standpoint! I have recently designed a Men's shell jacket that's really cute and reflective- which is a great alternative. Thanks for the tip!

Sarah, you vest looks very safe and functional with a great sense of style. Don't forget men need style too, and not only for jogging and bicycles. I ride motorcycles 24/7/365 and I would love to see a highly reflective, stylish, light jacket, like a wind breaker or something similar to wear at night over my day gear. Most protective equipment for motorcycles is great for protection with good visibility during the day, but they really don't do a good job with night reflectiveness. Probably because only the hard core moto enthusiasts ride in the dark. Thank you for considering us guys too!?

@Todd - Thanks so much for your comments. I'm less familiar with motorcycle apparel. Are you suggesting a jacket that also has built in armor or just something that is reflective for night riding and goes over your armored gear (or maybe you don't wear armored gear?) I do make a light weight jacket for men that is reflective but not armored.

@Shana the XXS would probably be a bit big on her- but because of the shoulder straps it would stay on and she could grow into it. I'm actually expecting my first baby (a little girl) any day now so there may be a kids line in the near future!

Wow, there are a lot of people over size 14 who walk dogs, ride bikes and jog that could use a great looking vest like this. How about something for us ?

Hi @Guest Yes- thanks for pointing that out- I do make The Vespert in larger sizes in some other fabrics and would like to add larger sizes in the Eco fabrics as well!
