A fine network of vessels defines the surface of this crescent-shaped pendant which was inspired by how veins form in leaves. The densely interconnected structure of 3d-printed nylon is airy and strong. An 18" sterling silver chain is threaded through the layers of the necklace.

Not my favorite Grommet item. I purchased both the black and the red vessel pendant and prefer the black. The red is a bright red and not a dark red as shown in the picture, which was disappointing. It also is very lightweight and looks like cheap plastic. The black one wears better.More > < Less

Drawing on their combined backgrounds in biology, mathematics, and architecture, Jessica Rosenkrantz and Jesse Louis-Rosenberg create one-of-a-kind jigsaw puzzles and jewelry. They call their Massachusetts-based design studio Nervous System. We call it a beautiful intersection of art, science, and technology.

Each piece is inspired by natural life. Yet, the designs are computer-generated. The team at Nervous System studies biological processes and then writes codes and algorithms to re-construct patterns found in nature through technology. The resulting creations are laser cut for a unique look that is at once both organic and constructed.

The intricate interlocking patterns of the plywood jigsaw puzzles simulate crystal growth similar to the formation of snowflakes. Meanwhile the Dendrite Earrings are made of stainless steel etched into delicate, lightweight forms in the likeness of coral and dendrite crystals. Made of 3D-printed nylon, the Vessel Pendant is a crescent-shaped design modeled after the structures that carry fluids through everything from the leaves of plants to our own circulatory systems.

Who would've thought technology could yield objects of such natural beauty.
