Frame the Fun

ViDi is the people’s action camera--ideal for anyone who leads an active lifestyle and wants to create and share media of the things they do. A legion of explorers and adventurers out there wanted to capture their exploits on camera, so Spencer Taylor—surfer, skater, and entrepreneur—stepped up to the challenge and created a high-definition action camera that’s both affordable AND awesome. It's about time. ViDi is colorful, multi-talented, and ready for adventure. The 2″ touchscreen makes it easy to see what you’re shooting. Take still or action shots in high definition; zoom in and record at high speed. An action camera is only as good as the accessories that allow you to slam, bump, dive, and dazzle, so each ViDi camera includes a waterproof case, micro SD card, selfie pole, car charger, and much more. And ViDi arrives pre-charged, so you're ready to start shooting right out of the box. The pictures are worth a thousand woahhhhhhhs.

Then ditch the waterproof housing and use the skeleton housing so you can keep the camera charging the whole time on the car charger.

@Sean - yes - it has two spring buttons on the case that actuate the buttons on the camera. And your GoPro is far far superior - trust me. there is no audio in spite of having a mic label next to a hole.

Also - it does not appear there is any compression so the video files come out to about 2gb for 20 minutes in the HD setting. Battery lasts for about 1 hour which is actually pretty good for the size & weight of this thing.

This thing is available under many brand names from several sources like Amazon. This particular packaging adds the selfie pole. The HD isn't really and on every unit I've looked at 640x480 mode they literally clip the top left of the full frame - so what you see is if you were looking to your left. the video also tends to be grainy and it does not appear to have any sort of auto exposure meaning when it's dim teh video gets really grainy and contrast is so low you can't make anything out. Bright sunshine just for fun these things are ok but not a Hero by any means.

  • Spencer
    Spencer – Special Guest
    1/22/2015 2:51 PM

@Shawn The camera casings have a 1/4" threaded receiver, which is universal for most cameras. This makes our accessories compatible with a lot of what's out there. We don't sell accessories separately, but will in the future. We have a suction cup mount right now that we've already approved but won't be available until summer.

@Polly Great question Polly! Inside the waterproof housing, the cameras are nearly indestructible. Outside of the case, the camera is more vulnerable and we don't recommend using them in high impact situations without the waterproof housing.

I would love buying your product that seems great with all functionalities required and much cheaper than other brands. Unfortunately Grommet doesn't deliver to Belgium (that even unfair from them, as it seems they do until the very last moment when ordering). Bongous is fine but tends to be expensive though. Spencer,

This is awesome! I have one of the pro cameras and I barely use it because I worry about the 500 it set me back with accessories. Plus, HD video is quite a load on my computer...I've been wishing for a simpler alternative to put on my doodles! This really is brilliant.

Does it take photos in succession? Is it wifi capable for streaming video?

I actually could hand this to my kids and not worry. Plus, what great gift for a teenager. They will think you spent a fortune!

  • Spencer
    Spencer – Special Guest
    1/22/2015 10:54 PM

@Jeannine Thanks for sharing. You just described some of the things we set out to solve by creating ViDi. Our current cameras do HD video, standard video, 5MP stills, and driving loop mode. They don't have multiple shot burst capability, nor wifi streaming. But the rear touchscreen makes them easier to use than many of the alternatives.

Does the camera incorporate any stabilization or anti-vibration firmware or is this something that needs to be handled by your video processing software? How does the output video work with Corel Video Studio Pro X7?

  • Spencer
    Spencer – Special Guest
    1/22/2015 10:58 PM

@Randy Most of our customers are uploading to Youtube, and rely on the stabilization software that Google provides. We don't have any image stabilization built in to the cameras. As for editing software, we've worked mostly with Adobe Premier. Corel would be a new test for us, but I don't anticipate any issue.

@Shawn The camera casings have a 1/4" threaded receiver, which is universal for most cameras. This makes our accessories compatible with a lot of what's out there. We don't sell accessories separately, but will in the future. We have a suction cup mount right now that we've already approved but won't be available until summer.

Can you please post more sample videos or stills? Especially ones that are clearer (stills) or less shaky (video). I like the price you set.

    Thanks!

    Chris

Hi Spencer. Read the specs and watched the video; neither says anything about the camera being shockproof. so ... how does it handle being dropped? The the bicycle crashing?

@Polly Great question Polly! Inside the waterproof housing, the cameras are nearly indestructible. Outside of the case, the camera is more vulnerable and we don't recommend using them in high impact situations without the waterproof housing.

I would love buying your product that seems great with all functionalities required and much cheaper than other brands. Unfortunately Grommet doesn't deliver to Belgium (that even unfair from them, as it seems they do until the very last moment when ordering). Bongous is fine but tends to be expensive though. Do you have another distribution channel reaching out to Europe? If not, could you let me know the size and weight of the package so that I can check how much exactly I'll be charge compared to the price of the ViDi?

Hi Christophe, if you contact our customer experience team here, they can put you in touch with Spencer so you may explore further distribution channels.

@Randy Most of our customers are uploading to Youtube, and rely on the stabilization software that Google provides. We don't have any image stabilization built in to the cameras. As for editing software, we've worked mostly with Adobe Premier. Corel would be a new test for us, but I don't anticipate any issue.

Does this camera come with a helmet strap?

@j No this camera doesn't include a helmet strap--the sticky mount is what we'd recommend using with the helmet.

Hi John, it is certainly comparable, but as you said, it is geared more towards the everyday videographer. What's great is that it comes charged out of the box and with plenty of accessories to capture any and all action.
