Dino Felt Lamp

Shed New Light

From a Brooklyn-based company called Voos Furniture, the Dino Felt Lamp is more than just a lamp for your desk, nightstand, or side table. It’s a handcrafted lamp that makes a statement punctuating interiors with an unexpected pop of color, use of fabric and multi-functional design.

The idea for a lamp that doubles as a planter
or a container for pens, pencils, and other loose items is the brainchild of New York architect Deger Cengiz whose experience designing small spaces has given him a great appreciation for beautifully-constructed, multi-use furniture. Each Dino Felt Lamp features an adjustable neck and is handmade from German felt in Williamsburg, New York.

With a Dino Felt Lamp on every desk in The Grommet headquarters, we’ve been able to put it to the ultimate test. The verdict is in and this lamp has it all: Beauty and function for your office or any room in the house.

Hello Grommet Community, We build these limited edition lamps right here in our studio in Brooklyn. I like to design objects that are multifunctional, so these lamps provide more than just lighting. I am available to answer any questions you may have.

    Hi Laura,

The lamp has a 50,000 hour built-in LED bulb. It can be used for growing plants, but can not be replaced with a professional plant growing bulb.

    $240? Are you NUTS?

Looks like a lamp I can buy at Ikea for under $20.

    Hi Derek,

While this lamp is at a higher price point - we do feel it's worth the investment for those who want to support a made in the U.S.A. product that's made by an entrepreneur who cares deeply about his product. We realize that not every one of our Grommet's will fit into everyone's budget.

@Amy For Pete's sake $240 is a car payment! $50 is more like it, great design idea, but even $50 is a stretch!

@Amy Sorry, but saying "it's expensive because we say it should be" is not a good reason as far as I'm concerned.

@ggreg is right, and that's a great way to put it in perspective. "It's expensive because we say it should be" is a ridiculous reason. It's still $10 worth of materials, (or less if you buy in bulk) and assembly.

@Amy I love this web site but if you are going to promote ridiculously priced items such as this lamp, I may have to OPT out....no longer trust worthy!

Sorry about the spamming. I was having an update issue....

@Amy, sorry...1 more thing...so the lamps are only assembled in the USA but the felt is from Germany....not buying it!

I love the concept - and I understand it's unique and a hand made product but $240 is way too high. I have Herman Miller furniture in my home (which isn't cheap) but can't swallow this price for a felt lamp. I don't think it's a budget issue ... Sorry ... I think Deger has a great idea but needs to re-evaluate the pricing.

Wonderful idea, but way too expensive, even at 1/10 the price. How about more affordable items for us retired, limited income types?

    Hi Tom,

We do keep you in mind as well - Many of our items are at a lower price point and for lamps, I thought you might like something like our Lumizu LED Candle Lanterns

    Happy browsing.

I love going to this site to see new creative ideas. As stated below, I'm sure the Dino Felt Lamps has read people's concerns. And although I do agree that this is a unique item and pricing is what ever you would like it to be, I'm sure it is a topic starter at gatherings too. But to suggest to someone of lesser means to get a candle instead of an electrical lamp is just down right rude. Why don't you just say, I understand it's not for everyone! (Maybe next time.) Regardless, this is still a great site.

I do agree with other posters that this price seems quite high. I was expecting a larger size lamp when I clicked on it. I would probably pay this price if it was a larger floor lamp and could accomodate a much bigger plant.

    Hi All,

Yes, it seems expensive. But it is the cost of such a piece as it's made in Brooklyn, as a limited edition. We produce all our items in our Brooklyn studio, and are able to sell them only in limited quantities, as a result of the high cost. Unfortunately it is not an affordable item, but definitely a collectible one.

@Deger Notes to file....: 1) Change "seems" to " is" in above comment. 2) Look for less expensive operations. 3) Limited editions do not automatically qualify for exorbitant pricing.

Hi Grommet folk. The Grommet co-founder here--and the person in the video. Thanks for weighing in on the Dino. I thought I'd share my POV.

When we put together a month of stories and discoveries for you, we are looking for a wide range of qualities in the Grommets. We don't want to be boring and we see too many interesting ideas (200 a week!) to limit what we cover to items that are affordable for every person. Price is just one factor. In Deger's case we saw a very unique use of a luscious material and a clever multipurpose lamp design. We also saw wit. Honestly, the minute I saw it, I knew we had to support this business. I was happy our team agreed.

Separately, I don't expect every Grommet to be something a person would want to buy everyday, no matter what the budget. Our community is just too diverse to do that. And we are about more than buying things. I'd be suspect of anyone who wanted to buy every Grommet! That is just too much emphasis on consumerism, no matter how lofty the values we support. So, I like the disagreements here and on other days. I do however think repeating the same comment over and over is not needed. Our Grommet partners are smart and can get the point pretty quickly. A few repetitions is good (to reinforce the point).
