Catch Some Air

Watching this rapid inflation sleep pad fill up looks like magic, but it’s just science. (Watch our video to see it in action—we’ll wait.) The specially designed valve creates a mini air stream as you blow, pulling in surrounding air to help the mattress inflate far faster than from your breath alone. The valve has an invertible release, which means it keeps the air in as it inflates. It also makes deflating super fast, letting you flatten it out and roll it up for storage. Ryan Frayne created the AirPad 2+ after wasting precious beach time trying to inflate a swim float. This sparked his idea to harness the wind to do the hard work. You don’t need a pump or electricity. And there’s no need to put your mouth directly on a plastic valve. There are built-in straps to transform this mattress into a cushy seat—great for camping trips, picnics, or just lounging in the yard. Wherever you use the AirPad 2+, the amazing inflating—and deflating—act is part of the fun.

This is literally a breath of fresh air for anyone who has blown up an air mattress or anything of the sort. How was this developed?

@Mike Ryan was at the beach with his family a few years ago, watching his brother trying to inflate a simple floating toy. After a few breaths, his brother gave up, threw the toy down, and mumbled some expletives. This got Ryan thinking that there must be a better way. After a lot of trial and error and he was able to develop the Windcatcher valve.

Why should every avid outdoor adventurer have a Windcatcher?

  • Oren

@Mike Simplicity! That's the short answer. An avid camper or outdoor adventure seeker, knows what it is like to inflate other airpads. They can can take a long time to inflate and now Windcatcher has solved this issue. Allowing the AirPad 2+ to be inflated in with fewer breaths, it usually takes me 7-10.

@Kyla The AirPad 2+is constructed of 75D Ripstop Polyester, this is an extremely durable material. Our product was meant for the outdoors, so camping would be fine. The AirPad 2+ weighs 1 lb 14 oz.

@Oren I saw your answer re the use in water, but you overlooked answering the possibility of a larger/two person size.

Your model is young and slender and just fits the regular option (if he doesn't roll over). I'm older, not so slender and do not sleep in one position. I am not being snarky, jealous...may be.

Also, This, in the larger size, would be wonderful when my young grand children stay the night....

What is the maximum weight that this air mattress can accommodate? I'm a big guy, weighing about 250 lbs. I avoid regular air mattresses when camping and instead use foam because my weight can cause some regular air mattresses to split at their seams from the pressure. It seems like the valve on this air mattress, and maybe even the seams, might be susceptible to the same kind of problem.

    Oren,

I have been looking for a kit that I can give to our homeless people. Being able to sit somewhere or lie down is so important to them. For a give away, the cost of this unit is prohibitive and so I was thinking of ways in which your customers can buy one at a certain price that includes giving away one for a homeless person. As an Industrial Designer, I have ideas for a simple cart also. Just thinking. Thanks ! If you need to contact, I am registered here as Das Menon
