City Ruffle Shawl

Wear ever

Soft, versatile, and flattering any which way you wear it, the City Ruffle Shawl is a must-have layering piece. One size fits all but this accessory is no one trick pony—it looks like a completely different garment depending on how you arrange it.

As the name suggests, it can be worn as a shawl, but can also be styled as a
scarf, a cape, or even a belted jacket. Uniquely cut to drape elegantly without fixing or readjusting, the City Ruffle Shawl can even be tied in front, worn asymmetrically, or off both shoulders.

April Bukofser and Marin Milio first put their heads (and their names) together to create AprilMarin back in 2008—a custom women’s clothing brand that brings modern day adornments to classic shapes and styles. Two years later, they added accessories to the mix, and the City Ruffle Shawl was born.

Pair it with jeans and a shirt to bring a bit of flair to your casual wear or keep it at your desk for chilly days in the office. Machine washable and available in your choice of rich hues, this wardrobe staple can take you from home to work to date night and back again.

Hi Grommet Community! I'm April of AprilMarin, a young contemporary design collection founded by my best friend Marin Milio and me. By focusing on the three loves in our lives: family, work and fun, we create beautiful garments that are fashionable yet functional, classic yet fun. Let me know if you have any questions about one of my favorite pieces- the City Ruffle Shawl.

The description says it is machine washable, but doesn't tell the fabric content. Is it possible to get that info, along with the measurements of the garment?

    Hi Ann,

The material is made from 100% acrylic. The dimensions are 5' x 4' when flat and one size fits all.

What about one for guys? Now that I am not as young as I once was I get terribly cold shoulders. Often the rest of me is warm, it is very strange. I reckon a macho version of this would be just what I need. Thanks.

@Erice same here brother, in a more masculine style, I would have no problem wearing this at my computer during winter! (not sure about out in public, I'm in a wheelchair, and this looks like it would work fine for me.)

    Hi Erice and Christopher,

That's a good idea - I'm sure many of your male counterparts would also be interested in this option. April and Marin have put the women's version to the test first, but they'll be thrilled to know there's a demand from more than just women.

Plaid for men, is that old fashioned?

    Hi Anne,

It may be old fashioned but that's why it would look great - for women and men. Good idea!

Hi, what is the content of the shawl? Is this item returnable?

  • Amy

    Hi Marcia,

As you'll see above, the shawl is made from 100% acrylic. If you find that you do need to return the item, you are able to return within 30 days for a full refund. All Grommets need to be returned in like-new, resalable condition and in their original, undamaged packaging (not shipping materials, just product packaging).

@Amy glad you added that last part, I rarely return items I've carefully researched, but have always worried about damaging even the shipping materials. thank you Amy!

this is beautiful, and I would buy it if it came in ivory or off-white. Any chance of that happening???

    Hi Carol,

It's possible that we'll be adding more colors soon if there is demand (which it sounds like there is!). I too am a fan of off-white sweaters so they'll have our 2 votes. Thanks for your feedback.

    Hi Brenda,

Here are the measurements for the shawl: 5' x 4' when flat, however it's a one size fits all. You can always find this type of information in our details portion which you'll see when you click on the orange box that says "buy".

  • christopher
    10/13/2014 1:52 PM

@Amy see what I told you before on your website content about the "dreaded" orange "buy" box? even I was guilty of that a few weeks ago...lol! people are used to descriptions of products BEFORE they think they are committed to click the buy button, from sites such as amazon!

I would love to see a photo of a larger size woman modeling this shawl. I hesitate to buy one because I have a large bust size. I don't want to look like a big tent with a head sticking out.

@Joanne it is flattering on all sizes. Being as versatile as it is, it can be worn many ways ( open, swept over one shoulder, belted or tied in front.

  • Kathy

I agree! I'm happy it doesn't overwhelm the petite gals out there, but I'm concerned about the tent effect on someone my size. Not sure the ruffles will help with that either. I'm worried they'll just add more bulk. Any chance of smoother styling in the future? Or at least photos of models in a variety of sizes?

Quick question, if this beautify shawl is 100% acrylic, does it pill?

  • April

    10/13/2014 1:34 PM

@Ann It does not pill at all. I have owned mine for 4 years and washed it in the washing machine, dried it on tumble dry low in the dryer and no pilling!

  • Cindy

Do you provide an instructions guide on the ways of wearing this scarf differently? Also I'm petite at five feet two inches, I am afraid if the scarf size this will overwhelm my size.

    Hi Cindy,

I will check with April to see if there is something available to show the different ways to wear the shawl. It's extremely versatile as she says above. As for size, I'm petite myself at 5' even. I've worn the shawl a few times and didn't feel that it overwhelmed me in any way. I liked the way it looked and found it as cozy as it looks.

Where is this shawl made? I don't buy products made in China.

    Hi Sandra,

Thanks for sharing your personal values here. The shawl is made in China. Our team knows that many members of our community deeply value the ability to purchase only products made in the U.S. and we have an entire category of products devoted to this. However, we've also found that many of our Makers aren't able to manufacture in the U.S.. While it's often ideal for them, it's unfortunately not always feasible. Again your thoughts here are truly appreciated.

Is it available without ruffles? That 'feature' is a show stopper for me.

    Hi Ron,

This is an interesting suggestion - I'm sure April will take it into consideration for future versions. Right now, the shawl is available only with ruffles but if that changes, we'll be sure to update our community.

  • Anna
    10/13/2014 5:46 PM

I love this! I'd also love it with fringe!

    Hi Anna,

Thanks for your idea here. April and team are surely taking notes on what the demand is for future versions.
