Keep it Covered

Slips might seem like they’re from another time, but the need to keep your unmentionables from showing is as necessary as ever. Bumbrella is a secure slip and panty combo that’s comfy, flattering, and stays put while keeping your silhouette rated PG. Maker Tara Gallagher had a moment familiar to many of us. Outside, sun shining, she realized her dress was more sheer than she thought. To prevent that from happening again, she wanted a slip—but one that wouldn't bunch or twist. And, as a doctor, she was wary of the health problems caused by constrictive shapewear. So she created a better alternative—Bumbrella. It solves the “see-through” problem and even slims your silhouette by smoothing lines and bumps. The lightweight, anti-static material is silky to the touch and just stretchy enough to move with your body. Even with the sun at your back, you don’t need to risk indecent exposure. Next time you dress up, try a comfortable slip that stays put.

Hello Grommet fans! I'm Tara Gallagher, founder and designer of Bumbrella. I'm honored and excited to introduce our modern, 2-in-1 mini pantyslip. It's the perfect "little something" to wear under sheer or unlined skirts and dresses to prevent an embarrassing overexposure! No more squishing and squeezing into shape-wear and say goodbye to the twist, turn, and ride-up of your "granny's" slip. I'm happy to answer all of your questions today!

Looks like a good product, but I wonder about those of us who don't wear miniskirts but longer knee length or midi skirts. I find that a sheer skirt would show the shorter slip underneath which looks funny (not as revealing as showing one's underwear, but still not attractive).

@Mary Hi Mary! Thank you for your question. We are definitely considering additional lengths in the future. We love the versatility of the mini- length because it gives you the coverage where you need it, without extra bulk. It's ideal for warmer weather, when less is more!

@S Hi! It's funny you say that...I have heard of people doing just that! I will say, it might be just a bit too lightweight and sheer when wet since the fabric is so silky! That being said, it might make a terrific, lightweight cover-up. Thank you for the suggestion...I will try it our like that this summer!

@Maureen Hi Maureen! bumbrella could be a terrific swim skirt if we used a heavier fabric and lining. Believe me, I would love to diversify in the future! bumbrella is just a little too silky and lightweight and would likely be too sheer when wet. It's lightweight, barely-there feeling is what makes it so wonderfully comfortable under skirt and dresses...it's a comfortable daywear undergarment that's a refreshing alternative to compressive shapewear.

@Dorothy Hi Dorothy! A longer length is something we are thinking about adding to the line in the future. My mother is in her 70's and she wears it when she just wants a "little something" to cover that upper thigh area, without the extra length.

I think it would great if this came up just a bit higher. Anything that" sits on or just below hips" ends up giving me a muffin top, which defeats the purpose of smoothing lines and bumps. While something coming up a bit higher might not look as attractive on its own, as the Bumbrella is meant to be worn under clothes I think it would suit the purpose better.

@Sandra Hi Sandra! In the future we will consider adding higher waisted styles. Our fit model loved the placement of the waistband since it didn't roll down or shift position like many higher-waisted undergarments. As a non- shape wear garment, you will feel free and comfortable. It just sits comfortably at the waist like most underwear styles. The slip is what smooths and makes your clothes hug more freely for flattering look.

@Tara This looks like a terrific product. My concern kind of echo's Sandra's in that my hippiest/bulge area creates my "waist" and anything that doesn't sit at its level rolls down anyway. I hope that it is more of a full waist than a hip hugger style waist.

  • Tara
    Tara – Special Guest
    3/29/2016 11:21 AM

@Cathy Hi Cathy! I hear your concern. The fit of bumbrella is a very flattering A-line. The waist does not cinch in at all. If you have ever worn a swim skirt, it feels very similar. I created bumbrella because I was never comfortable in the tight shape wear slips on the market. They pinched, squeezed and rolled down and created bulges where I didn't have them before. bumbrella is not tight, so you will to be squeezed!

@Tara Unlike the other interested parties, my question is about going shorter. At 4'11" I am a true petite. If I cut the length of the bumbrella so that is doesn't show under any of my dresses or skirts, will the fabric roll or curl up after washing?

  • Tara
    Tara – Special Guest
    3/29/2016 3:59 PM

@cyndie Hi Cyndie! My daughter is just barely 5' tall and she can wear bumbrella without it being too long! The XS is about 14" in length. I'm not quite sure what would happen if you cut bottom...it doesn't seem like it would roll since it isn't that knit , seamless fabrication. It is a silky nylon/spandex fabric. I would bet a tailor could shorten it if need be, but honestly, if you're as petite as my 20 year old daughter who love to were mini skirts, I think it would fit well! Thank you for your question! I hope you will give it a try!

Love this idea and will probably order it....I am curious to know "Visible Painty Line."

in the video there doesn't seem to be a painty line and I'm wondering if it's because the model is wearing a thong? I am also interested in a longer panty as well...."boy legs."

  • Tara

    3/29/2016 6:32 PM

@Suzanne Hi Suzanne! Great question. With the Thong you will not have any panty lines. If the fit of the Hipster style is good, you should't have any lines either. As long as it isn't tight and pulling, the slip functions to block panty lines. I love both styles and have never had unsightly VPL when I'm wearing it. bumbrella hangs in a comfortable A-line shape, which also keeps VPL away! I hope this answers your question. I appreciate your interest and hope you will give bumbrella a try. Women who try it, really love it!

Bumbrella

2-in-1 Pantyslip

Keep it Covered

Slips might seem like they’re from another time, but the need to keep your unmentionables from showing is as necessary as ever. Bumbrella is a secure slip and panty combo that’s comfy, flattering, and stays put while keeping your silhouette rated PG.

Maker Tara Gallagher had a moment familiar to many of us. Outside, sun shining,
she realized her dress was more sheer than she thought.

@Christinia Hi Christinia! You are most definitely right! This is the first product I have done and I certainly have plans to extend sizes in the future. I will say, the fabric is very stretchy and accommodates many body types. It's amazing the number of women that all wear the size Medium, but have very different body types! That's one of the things I love most about bumbrella. Thank you for your comment!

@Rachel Hi Rachel! Thank you! I think the name sums it up perfectly...an umbrella for the bum! This is exactly what you will get. Just the perfect coverage to avoid those embarrassing overexposures, but still cute, modern styling. I hope you will enjoy your bumbrella!

I remember something similar in the 1970's. The only problem then was figuring out the slip and pantyhose.

@Betty Hi Betty! I have had women tell me they have worm bumbrella with pantyhose and tights. You can put bumbrella on, lift the slip portion, put on the tights over it and then bring the slip over. This is how I've worn it in the Fall and Winter when it's cold. I hope this styling tip helps! Thank you for your comment an interest!

DEBORAH - Would you consider making one a little longer for the women that don't wear skirts or dresses that expose 90% of their thighs. I think it's a wonderful product.

@DEBORAH S. Hi Deborah! I hear your concern and definitely have plans for additional lengths in the future. The mini length gives the coverage where needed. With this shorter length, you won't have to worry about the slip hanging below the hem and you will have that upper area coverage to prevent those embarrassing overexposures. Thank you for your comment. I wear mine with every skirt length from my mini's to my maxi's!

@Tara Unlike the other interested parties, my question is about going shorter. At 4'11" I am a true petite. If I cut the length of the bumbrella so that is doesn't show under any of my dresses or skirts, will the fabric roll or curl up after washing?
