Dear Kate

Women's Performance Underwear

Built-In Barrier

Ladies might be reluctant to talk about leaks, but they happen to almost all of us—whether during periods or pregnancy, or from light loss of bladder control.

Dear Kate’s performance underwear is an added layer of protection that keeps you comfy while containing unexpected leaks. And it's Made in the USA.

Originally created by
chemical engineer Julie Sygiel, the performance fabric was designed to also be silky-soft. The double-layered microfiber lining is resistant to sweat, leaks, and stains. It wicks away that moisture, and is the perfect backup solution to your regular period routine (tampon/menstrual cup/pad) in case of leaks and overflow. And the outer layer is breathable and stretchy, so you’ll be just as comfortable wearing these undies to work as the gym.

With these little mishaps part of everyday life for most women, it’s about time our undergarments truly had us covered.

Hi - how do the sizes compare to regular panty sizes (5,6,7,)? Thanks!

@eileen Hi there! We recommend choosing your size based on your hip measurement. So:

for size XS, the hip measurement is: 32-34 inches

    S: 35-37 inches

    M: 38-40 inches

    L: 41-43 inches

    XL: 44-46 inches

    1X: 48-50 inches

    2X: 52-54 inches

    3X- 56-58 inches

If you are in between sizes, we suggest sizing down for mini lining and up for a full lining.

@HongJoo I do not see a size 3x in the women's brief style. That style usually does carry larger sizes because the other styles are usually for smaller sized women. Will you be getting those in a 3x?

    Any special washing instructions?

    3/23/2016 11:14 AM

@Fern We recommend machine washing all styles in cold water on a delicate cycle and air dry. And remember—NEVER USE FABRIC SOFTENERS OR DRYER SHEETS with Dear Kate panties. If hand washing is your only option, make sure to soak them in water without detergent after washing. Any leftover detergent residue can keep the technology from working properly.

Does this help with any odor then too?

@Rose The undies do have an anti-microbial finish in addition to its leak-resistance and moisture-wicking properties.

Sounds like the ideal ladies panty.....my concern is the price....is it $36 for ONE panty??

  • HongJoo
    HongJoo – Special Guest
    3/23/2016 11:31 AM

@Rebecca Good question! Our revolutionary lining fabric is made at a mill in the US and our undies are manufactured in NYC. The special technology + fabrics, plus the the fact that the undies are made in the USA account for the higher price point. We know that compared to cotton undies, the price point is much higher, so we do have a 60 day return policy plus a 1 year warranty. And, since they are meant to replace pantiliners, you won't have to invest in a new box every month!

    @HongJoo

I guess I am confused now. In this reply you stated "they are meant to replace pantiliners, you won't have to invest in a new box every month". But in the other reply below you stated that "Dear Kates are meant to be back up to your regular routine". Which statement would actually be correct?

  • HongJoo

@Karen Dear Kate's won't replace a maxi pad or a tampon, so they would be back-up for days you need those. They will replace a pantilliner though, so if you normally use pantiliners for back-up or for light days you can use Dear Kates instead.

How absorbent are the panties? Can they take the place of a liner or other back up method for leaks? What about odor control? I would like to recommend these to patients.

  • HongJoo
    HongJoo – Special Guest
    3/23/2016 11:29 AM

@MARCY They are great as a pantiliner replacement for minor leaks and regular discharge. Mini lined pairs and thongs hold up to 1 tsp of liquid and fully lined pairs (except thongs) hold up to 3 tsp of liquid.

The undies do have an anti-microbial finish in addition to their leak-resistant and moisture-wicking properties.

@HongJoo Sorry to ask this question, but how do these compare to Thinx? I just heard about both your brands within days of each other & trying to figure out what suits my needs best. Thanks

    3/23/2016 2:13 PM

@Janalea Good question! There are a few things that differentiate Dear Kate from Thinx underwear. Only Dear Kate undies incorporate our patent-pending? Underlux fabric technology. We don't use a plastic lining inside of our fabric so Dear Kate underwear has maximum stretch and breathability. Our inner lining also has incredible wicking properties so it absorbs liquid quickly. All of our high-tech undies are designed and manufactured in New York City. While Thinx are meant to be worn without a tampon or pad, Dear Kates are meant to be back up to your regular routine. Plus, they're great for working out in and for everyday wear! If you wear a pantiliner regularly, Dear Kates are perfect for you.

I have both brands (actually many of each) and for me Dear Kate is much better. The fit is better for me and they wear much better (the lace on the T are falling apart on every pair). I feel that Dear Kate is made to fit more body types - and T is better for young and fit body type. I am not young and less fit than I was when I was young.

My favorite Dear Kates are not listed here - I like the full lining - full brief. I have many many pair (I know the price is high, but they are just so perfect, I give up other treats for underwear…what an odd thing to say!)

I can only say - try them and see. They are my favorite product of the year (well, last year when I found them…) and whenever I have a little extra spending money, I get a new pair.

By the way, I do not work for Dear Kate - nor do I know anyone who does. I am a teacher in a sunny state (mind and body)…

@HongJoo Do your briefs sit at or slightly above the natural waist or slightly below the navel like so many current styles?

  • HongJoo
    HongJoo – Special Guest
    3/23/2016 1:22 PM

@Sally The total length from back to front for our briefs in sizes XS-XL is between 24 and 26 inches and in sizes 1X-3X between 26 and 28 inches. The is from the back waistband around the crotch and up to the front waistband. Depending on your torso length, it could hit below or above the navel. I hope that helps!
