The Perfect Fit

We’ve all been there, staring into the closet, willing the perfect pair of pants to jump out so we can get on with the day. Look no more.

Yvette Pasco knows what women like. The clientele at her San Francisco boutique, called Dress, have busy lifestyles and want clothes that feel like pajamas, drape like trousers and fit like yoga pants. Yvette designed a winner: The Perfect Pant. Made of a soft, breathable Lycra blend,
Yvette’s pants can go from the gym to the boardroom to the cafe without losing shape. Heels, sneakers or flats? No problem.

These pants always look sharp, with no belts, pockets or baggy knees to interrupt the clean lines. Plus they’re made for all shapes and sizes. As if that weren’t enough, they’re also easy care (just throw them in the washer/dryer) and eminently packable. Kudos to Catherine Hughes, Yvette’s friend and neighbor (and the founder of Toffee Talk), who told us about this perfect wardrobe staple. It’s time to step out of the closet, looking your best in the Perfect Pant.

Hi everyone. I am thrilled that my pants were chosen by Daily Grommet to be featured today. I own a women's boutique in San Francisco and I designed these pants because I saw a need for a comfortable, great fitting pull-on pant, that had style and is machine washable. They have become our number one selling item because they are made of a soft brushed fabric, they fit all body types, and they are a fashion "must- have" in any woman's wardrobe. I am here to answer the questions you have.

What are the inseams? My self and my girls have long legs.

@Linda: Hi Linda, The Perfect pant runs long, I am long legged, so I designed them to fit a the long side, shorter women can easily have them altered. I wear the small and the inseam is 34". Thank You Linda

@Yvette Pasco: Well, why should I have to pay to them altered, just because I'm short? They already cost $79.00. Make them also in a petite for 5'4" and shorter women. Your attitude turned me off.

@Carol Reed: Hi Carol, I apologize, I meant no disrespect. The Perfect Pant length is graded from off the rack sizing. I know how frustrating it can be, being too tall or petite. We plan on one day having this pant come in extra long and petit to cater to a bigger market.

@Carol Reed: I realize having to hem/alter pants may be an inconvenience if you are petite, however....... at least you can. Being tall and unable to find pants long enough is so frustrating. I have many short friends and when I hear them complain about having to hem everything, that is my pat answer.... "AT LEAST YOU CAN". It's IMPOSSIBLE to add length. I wish more people made tall clothing available.

@Theresa: Thank you Theresa for your comment. I hope you think about trying a pair of the Perfect Pant. I think you will find they run on the long side, for that very reason you mentioned, you can shorten however harder to lengthen with a 1/4" machine stitch hem. I have a few tall girlfriends at 5'11" and they wear the Perfect Pant with flats, Ugg boots and flip flops, as there run around causal pant. If you decide to try them and they don't work out you can always return then for a credit back on your credit card. (minus the shipping unfortunately) however I have a feeling you will end up keeping them once you try them on. Thank you for your comment, you had me entertained :)

@Theresa: I couldn't agree more. Being tall, it's very frustrating to find pants long enough in the leg, but still of average depth of crotch. (I'm not so keen on pant crotches hanging half way to my knees.) I would happily alter the length of every pant I buy if only they came too long.)

@Sally GK and @Theresa, I am with you in the desire for long legged pants. 34" is too short. I need a min of 35" inseam and prefer 36". I can only wear mens pants and ever now and then I find a pair of 38" which I get for the novel joy of having pants that are too long.

@Theresa: Life is frustrating for all of us in different areas. One of the frustrations of being a pixie (only 5 feet tall) is not just the inconvenience of tailoring, but the cutting off of $20 worth of fabric - we feel gypped. I can only make so many scrunchies and belts off the left-over materials!

@Theresa: I totally agree with you and have echoed those words!Men have for years had the option of altering the neck width, arm length and leg length. Finally women have begun to get that option. We are not all 5'4". I would buy them.

Are they considered "full cut" around the hips and thighs, or are they more skinny legs and hugging?

  • Yvette
    Yvette – Special Guest
    2/17/2011 1:39 PM

@Diana: I would say the Perfect Pant is a bit fuller cut throughout the whole leg, I did not want that tight workout pant look, when I designed it.

Length....huge issue for me. Do they come in petite?

  • Yvette
    Yvette – Special Guest
    2/17/2011 1:49 PM

@judy: Hi Judy good question for all the petite gals. This pant only comes in one length however the pant is very easy to shorten. The hem is done by hand and the fabric does not fray when you cut it.

  • Yvette
    Yvette – Special Guest
    2/17/2011 11:18 PM

@judy question earlier about length and Petite sizes.

My mistake the pant is a machine 1/4" stitch hem, what I meant to say, is you can just turn up the machine hem and hand stitch it, with no cutting or take it to a dry cleaners they are fairly inexpensive to shorten a pant by machine stitch.

Recommendation for all the PETITE clients:

The cropped Perfect Pant would be perfect, no shortening required. My mom is 5 feet tall and she wears the cropped all the time and loves that she does not have to do a thing to them.

Thank you Judy & Carol Reed for inquiring about Petite sizing and shortening.

I bought a pair of these pants when they first were available at DRESS, some

years ago, and can honestly say I have put them on just about every day when

I get home from work - they are THE most comfortable leisure-wear pants I have

ever worn! I've washed them numerous times and they retain shape and size and

softness and are like new each time. I am 5'2 and have the small size, and even

the length is perfect for me! LOVE them!!

@Bebe: Thank you Bebe for that wonderful comment. I call them my "house pant." I live in them everyday at home too. With owing a designer boutique, I have access to many great new looks however the Perfect Pant seems to be my go to pant

every morning to get my son to school then over my Bikam yoga clothes to keep me warm and then back home to lounge in before I out the door again picking up my son from school.

I want to pull the trigger on the perfect capri pant, but want to know how much different these will look from my black capri work-out pants? Basically, if I'm wearing these with a tank top this Spring and bump into a friend, will I be asked if I'm headed to the gym, or going to a lunch date?

  • Yvette
    Yvette – Special Guest
    2/17/2011 2:06 PM

@Liz: Hi Liz the Perfect pant long or capri do not look or feel like work out clothes. It is more like an everyday pant that is comfortable to wear to fitness. I would say you will look very pulled together in the capri pant, with a tank top going to lunch. I would add a light weight, longer cardigan and flats to have a more finished look.

  • Yvette

    2/17/2011 2:11 PM

@Heather: Hi Heather I'm not sure your size however we designed the XL for the plus size gal. We call it our "Oprah" pant because Oprah's staff loves this pant. This pant really stretches, I would suggest for the fuller gal to make sure the top or sweater you wear with the long Perfect Pant, covers the crotch area. It will look and feel like a legging look, that does not show everything.

I was given a pair of Yvette's "perfect pant" for Christmas and they are amazingly comfortable. They are my "go to" pant the minute I get home after a long day at the office. I am 5'0" and they are the perfect length. Come to think of it – I need a second pair as a back-up! They are also the perfect pant for those long red-eye flights from San Francisco to New York! Thank-you Yvette.

@Joy Fisher: hi joy Sorry for the delay, we have been having Internet problems in SF with all the rain we are getting. The waist band hits depending on width however that said I am an off the rack size 8, I wear a small in the perfect and the waist hits me right at my navel. It can even be streched to wear them higher if you like and you can roll the waist band down if you want to wear them lower. My yoga friends roll the pant down. I like that they come up high to start with. NO you know what crack showing with the Perfect Pant :)

@Madame Defarge: The Perfect pant is a basic simple stretch pant that works in so many different lifestyle categories. I'm open for suggestions, we are adding new items to our line slowly but surely. Thank you for your question Madame Defarge.

@Diana: This style is like a straight sailor pant. It is a straight fit, but the pants have lycra in them so there is some stretch and give.

@Liz: These are definitely an upgraded pant compared to a yoga pant. I would wear these to work, out doing errands, out to dinner - places where I would not feel comfortable in my yoga pants.

I prefer these pants when I travel, especially on a plane. They breathe and don't wrinkle -- plus are comfy when you want to lean back and sleep. Thanks Yvette.

I'm working on getting the inseam on each size. Here is the size chart and our recommendation on which size to get (Can be found in the Details Section). I'm a size 4 -6 and I prefer the P/XS size.

    Size Chart: P=0-2, S=4-6, M=8-10, L=12-14, XL=16-20

We found that these are generous in size. If you want your pants/skirt more fitted, order one size smaller. If you want more room, order true to size.

I tested these in a size M and I WEAR THEM ALL THE TIME. I don't call myself petite, just not tall, 5'4", and usually a pant size 8 - 10 (OK, I'm an 8 on a good day, more often, I'm a pure 10). I like the M because its roomy, not only covers my little muffintops, but somehow disguises them. (Btw, who else is SO OVER low-riding pants???) I love being able to pull up the waist or roll it for the length that I want. I could have gone to a Small, but as I said I have the muffintops to deal with and I like how comfortable and roomy (without being bulky) the M is. The high-quality, low-weight fabric is the key, I think.

I have two pairs of these that I've owned for about a year, and I wear them all the time! I am now 5 months pregnant, and I still wear the size S all the time. I did hem them a bit since I am 5'4" and found them a bit long, bit I did it myself by hand in only a few minutes. Today in fact I wore one pair all day - first doing some cleaning around the house with a long-sleeved T; then for lunch at Spruce with black boots, a gray knit turtleneck, and a flowy cardigan; and lastly with just the turtleneck for some Energetics body work on a massage table. These pants are really so comfy but also look good and are a must have.

I have two pairs of the perfect pant, the capri & full length & I love them both.

Being a small business owner myself,I am always on the go and I love that I can go to yoga & then slip into the perfect pant & go straight to work and look put together.I also wear the capri for a more casual look with sandals or my uggs.

I highly recommend the perfect pant....

The perfect pant is PERFECT. I received these as a gift from Yvette for doing 100 consecutive days of yoga and I fell in love at first wear. I immediately went online to try and find out where I could buy more - all before realizing that she was the creator of this wonder. Thanks Yvette. I have had one pair for years and they've gone through countless washings all looking as new as when I received them. I've worn them on a 6 hour flight with super cute boots and an eileen fisher top in lieu of the typical jeans outfit. I've worn them to work with a linen button down and a maroon blazer and best of all of I've worn them to run down the street in my ballet flats and a light silk tunic for some sushi take-out. I really appreciate not having to compromise on fashion and these pants can be dressed up or down with secret knowledge of such blissful comfort. They make you look and feel slim and who doesn't want that? Well worth every penny. Next up for me are the capris and skirt!

I first got the perfect pant when I was pregnant - at the beginning of the my pregnancy. It was the only pant I wore that looked good as my belly grew. What I liked so much is that the fabric is soft and totally comfortable and the best part was that it fit nicely against my body and didn't add extra lines or bulk. Now my son is almost 3 and I am back to my normal size AND I still love and wear my perfect pant!!!! I need more for sure.

Please consider making these in plus sizes. I find myself getting excited about daily grommet pieces, and then remember it's probably not in plus size. I would/could live in about 5 pr. with my current wardrobe tops. Great idea.

@ Connie Hi and thank you for your interest. I don't know what size you wear however The Perfect Pant XL fits up to a size 18-20. My pant was taken to the Oprah W show and her staff and producers loved my pant. We call now call our XL the"Oprah Perfect Pant". Hope you get a chance to try on a pair, you will not want to take them off. I have my Perfect Top on right now over my Bikram yoga clothes and I am out the door to take class.... bye for now |--\o__

Please add me to the list of the disappointed but hopeful! I wear size 26, so your "XL" isn't even close. Please consider making plus sizes. I don't usually spend that much money on a pair of pants, but if these were in my size, there's a good chance I would try them.

I hope you'll soon make these in more sizes, and that Grommet will then relist them!

In several comments you have mentioned that the pants run long in length, and you have also commented that the Capri pant is perfect for petite women. Do you mean that the Capri pant fits petite women like a long pant, i.e., ankle length? The photo in the Daily Grommet teaser showed the pants in what appeared to be a boot cut style, which neither the Lounge or Capri seem to be... Unless the Capri fits like a long trouser on us shorter girls! If that's the case, I'm buying!

@WThompson: Hi WThompson, the cropped pant fits & looks like a cropped pant, it has a detailed slit on each side and will hit at your ankle or below. I only suggest this to petite woman that don't want to pay for alterations, however the Perfect Pant is more of a trouser look. you would be surprised how many shorter woman don't shorten the PP, the just roll it at the top so they can wear the pant both with flats and heels. Hope you give the long pant a try, once you try these pants on, you will want to add the cropped pant and skirt to your wardrobe. Thank you for your good question.

I'm confused. The information on the Daily Grommet indicates the sizes for the lounge pant are:

    o X Small 33-1/2" inseam, size 0-4

    o Small 34" inseam, size 6-8

    o Medium 35" inseam, size 10-12,

    o Large 35-1/2" inseam, size 14-16

o X-Large 36" inseam, size 16-18 even up to 20 fits more like leggings

But when I look at www.perfectpant.com, it says:

Our long lounge pants usually run true to size:

    P = 2-4, S = 4-6, M = 6-8, L = 8-10, XL = 10-12

I normally wear a size 16 and was going to order the XL after seeing the Daily Grommet because I don't like anything tight fitting, but the perfectpant.com website makes it look like XL will only fit up to a size 12. What's the story here?

@Lisa Reese: I can understand the confusion! When our testers tried them, they all went a size down to what they normally wear and so we adjusted the sizing chart when copying it here to reflect what we actually found to be true. Even with the adjustment, we are recommending sizing down if you like your clothes to fit tighter. As long as the length is okay, a Large will be fine or a Medium if you like your pants to fit more tightly.

I was all set to buy either the pants or skirt or both when I decided to go look at your regular The Perfect Pants website. At Daily Grommet the answers given to questions seem to indicate that a person who wears a size 12/14 would wear a size Medium in the Perfect Pant BUT on your own website a Medium is for sizes 6-8.

Here is the sizing chart on your website:

    P = 2-4, S = 4-6, M = 6-8, L = 8-10, XL = 10-12

    Please clarify the discrepancy.

    I am definitely interested.

Also do you have any promotional discounts for buying more than 1 item?

    Thanks for your help!

Extremely interested in the pants - what you tall people dont realize that if there is a flare to the cut we cant hem because we lose the cut the pant and the knee is too low..but I digress. None the less I understand when starting out only having one standard length. My question is - did we ever learn what the inseam is for the cropped pant? is the cut the same as the full length pant but shorter? or is the pant cut wider? (trying to figure out whether to buy the full length and hem or buy the cropped) and is the full length pant a straight leg? or is there any sort of a flare to the leg?

    Thank you!

@Lolita Pfeffer: These are straight leg pants. Yes, Yvette measured each pant and posted the following:

LONG PANT- inseam and sizing chart

    Long Pant

    X Small 33-1/2" inseam, size 0-4

    Small 34" inseam, size 6-8

    Medium 35" inseam, size 10-12,

    Large 35-1/2" inseam, size 14-16

X-Large 36" inseam, size 16-18 even up to 20 fits more like leggings

    CROPPED PANT

    X-Small 25" inseam, size 0-4

    Small 26" inseam, size 6-8

    Medium 27" inseam, size 10-12

    Large 28" inseam size 12-14

    X-Large 29" inseam, size14-16

SKIRT LENGTH from waist FYI: Can be worn lower to make it longer, or pulled up to make shorter.

    XS 26"

    Small 27"

    Medium 28" ,

    Large 28-1/2"

    X-Large 29"

The cropped pant has a slit but otherwise has the same straight leg cut. Good luck with your decision!

Hello! Received my new pants last night and just tried them on! The fabric is awesome - so unique and soft, never had anything like them before. I am 5'2" and the cropped come to the top of my ankles! This is typical for me - having capris and cropped pants come longer on me - good thing is I don't have to hem them! Guess my legs are short? I got the medium which is my usual size in these type pants and I think they will be fine. I can see I will wear them a lot! However, since I would still like a pair that are full length on me I will probably go ahead and order the regular length pants soon and have them hemmed. To the people who complain about having to hem - I have to hem all my regular length pants and jeans about 3-4 inches anyway, even when I buy short lengths in jeans now, so this is not unusual for me. I'm used to it. My local dry cleaners charges $12 to hem a pair of pants and since I don't trust myself to cut and hem, I just do it that way. At least they are machine washable which is a cost savings there and I so appreciate that! I do have one question however, the price tag attached to the pants said they are $59 and I paid $69 for them plus shipping - what's up with that? THANK YOU!!!

I'd have to say I agree that you should make a pant for petite's as well. I was about to buy your product until I read this. When the pants are 79 to begin with and it's going to cost me another 10-20 to get a hem it makes no sense to me. I am in a rental home with no sewing machine so I don't want to go get my pants and then go find someone to have hem my pants and so forth.

How are they "perfect pants" if they do not fit petite women - my inseam is 29"...change the name -" perfect pants for women with longer legs". Btw, in the event that you do not know enough about clothing, altering does not solve the problem as it a matter of proportion - it is different than average size women.
