Custom Boards

Kim Strassner and Mike Pararas began making personalized cutting boards with words on them as holiday gifts for friends and family. The pieces were such a hit, they founded Words with Boards so anyone could give or receive one. Their wooden serving and cutting goods are handmade in Maryland. Kim and Mike have a few expressions of their own (like Cheese and Happy Hour), or you can customize a board with your own words or a date, name, or location for a truly custom piece. The boards and Lazy Susan servers are all hand-cut, hand-sanded, and then hand-sealed with food-grade mineral oil. That hard work pays off with a beautifully finished piece that showcases the natural maple wood and crisp, precision-cut lettering. Each one strikes the perfect gifting balance of handmade and heartfelt.

Impressive but I would think it would be hard to clean because of the cutouts.

@Sue Hi Sue, Thanks for your question, it's a good one. The food generally falls right through the cutouts but if anything gets stuck you can use a tooth pick or other small tool to get it out.

@Kim Hi Kim.....Just wondering what the character limits are on each item.....

@Travis Hi Travis, the character limit depends on the size. The large board or lazy susan will accomodate up to 15 characters and the small board up to 10 characters. In addition to letters we can do numbers, ampersand sign, heart or plus sign.

    Thanks for the question!

Kim - very attractive work. Is the cutting surface end grain or edge grain?

Can the round cheese board be purchased without being a lazy Susan?

@Fran Hi Fran, yes it can! When you order just state that you don't want the lazy susan hardware. Instead we can put rubber feet on the bottom.

@Kim Would the price be the same without the lazy Susan hardware?

@Carol Hi Carol, yes the cost would be the same because the only thing we are changing is the hardware on the bottom.

@Debra Hi Debra, You would care for them like any other wood cutting board. Wash with mild soap and water and apply food-grade mineral oil as needed. Do not put in the dishwasher or let sit in water. Care instructions are included with each board.

Thanks for the question, it is important to know how to care for them!
